Carb leaf-spring questions (honda cb350f- KEIHIN carb)
« on: October 04, 2009, 01:16:55 PM »
Hi, I am a newbie and I'm trying to figure out a couple things about a KEIHIN carb piece for a cb350f.

1. What is the purpose of the leaf spring attached to the main jet?

2. Do I really need it?  What would happen without it?
I lost one.  Ugh.  Searched everywhere.  Maybe the carb never had it, I can't recall.

3. It doesn't seem to be an option on bikebandit or any other sites.  Any idea where I can find one?

Any help would be really appreciated.  If what I'm asking is unclear I can try to add a picture.

I had the same problem on a 550. I found a local motorcycle salvage yard that had old carbs sitting in a box. He pulled one open and sold me a leaf spring, albeit reluctantly. You can't find them on BikeBandit or anywhere else. Either look for some salvage yards in your area or buy a used set of carbs on eBay that have a leaf spring in them.

I'm not too sure what they do other than hold the float bowls in place.

Best of luck.

Without the "leaf spring", there's a chance the main jet could drop out of position.

Holding the jet in place is the only function as far as I know.

I had the same problem. I bought one from a member here, or I would have been up the creek.  I was unable to find them anywhere.

This is a different carb but the leaf spring the guy has his finger on looks just like it.

Thanks everyone for your responses.  I figured the point of this thing is to keep the main jet secure.  I'm amazed that the piece isn't listed in the parts list nor for sale anywhere.

if i were in ur shoes i would fabricate some thing.... first thing come to mind is a piece of a hacksaw blade with a hole drilled in it..... it would seem the only thing that does is hold the carbs at its open level from going to far.... jsut figure out about what level u should stop it and then use ur imagination.... good luck

Whatever you do, make sure what you fabricate (if that's what you do) doesn't put too much pressure on the bowl when you try to screw it down.  Those screws strip easily...

It would be kind of fun to fabricate something (although it might take me a month, it might be fun).  Good thought about those bowl screws - I'll be careful.

Thanks everybody.  If anyone comes up with a place having these ready-made, please let me know.
