Oil screen , Oil Pan seal
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:20:20 AM »
Does the oil screen on the oil strainer just snap off or do you have to take the oil strainer off to remove the screen. My seem likes its permanently on the strainer. There is some particles in the screen that need to be cleaned out since I have the pan off.
I took the engine out of the CB550 and I have ordered a new oil pan gasket to install. When I install the new oil pan seal do I need to put some type of silicone or glue in the groove of the oil pan and on the edge of the pan to seal the gasket?
Also when I took the engine off of the frame yesterday, I laid it on it's side. Apparently all of the oil was not drained out of the case and oil puddled in the condenser cover. I'm sure that the condensers got quite a bit of oil on them. Will the oil soaking ruin the condensers or are they sealed and should be okay? Also if the points got a lot of oil on them would that ruin them also?
Thanks.
