My dad and mom grew up in Glasgow Scotland, in the Moss Park area. One of my dads first bikes was a 1945 or 46 James Captain and moved on from there to a Triumph Tiger Cub then to a Velocette Mack and finally the last of his bikes was the 1960 BMW R60. He seen the bike in a magazine and him and one of his chums rode to over to London England. He ordered the motorcycle and it was delivered to England and they shipped it to Glasgow Scotland in a crate via the train. They picked it up at St. Eunich train station. It was registered in England and when they opened the crate all they had to do was add gas. It had been shipped with the license plate on it. At the time my dad was 1 of 3 in Scotland that had that bike. The motorcycles were my dad and his friends only mode of transportation. They toured all over Europe and Great Briten. One of his chums was a regular competitor at the TT's on the Isle of Man. His name Bobby Mc Intire they called him the "The Flying Scott". He passed away while practicing for the TT. Terrible accident,my dad was there watching. In 1964 a Govt Mail truck T boned him. Witnesses say they 'heard him coming, the roar of his engine, jamming through the gears". You dont hear them coming especially on a BMW. He was un concious for three days, the bike totalled. He never rode again. My goal one of these days is to find a 1960 R 60. It truely is a beautiful machine. Dads was black, though I have seen them in white. He used to bring his camera every where they went on the bikes even if it were just him and my mom. I wish he still had the pictures, my aunt was over this summer and she promised to look them out for me. My dads place got broken into[prolly someone he knew] They got all his cameras killed his 3 German Sheppards and I belive most of his pics were gone also. I do know my aunt has pics of them when his first got the R60 home. Hopefully she finds them
