Who has some experience with XL's (350)
« on: October 04, 2009, 02:31:10 PM »
I have started a new build with an old '74 xl350 I had laying around. My plan is to turn it into a hybrid street tracker/cafe. My question is if anyone knows if the fork stem is the same as a CB. I would like to put a cb550 front end on the bike if possible. I know the tubes are the same diameter but the trees are little narrow and I don't think I could get the 550 front wheel on it.
Thanks

I did something similar with an '83 XL600.
Pulled the engine and put it in a '74 CB360 frame.
Don't know about your forks, though
Good Luck

The stem's part number is unique to XL250/350...it's unlikely that you could squeeze the 550 wheel/brake/fender in the XL setup, but I can't answer it for sure............

Generally the best way to do this is to swap out the entire front end - stem/clamps/forks/wheel/brake/fender, then everything generally bolts right up - if the stem fits ok.....

You need to put this question to Steve, over at HondaTwins.net, he's the King of Interchangeability.

My plan was to first just use the 550 forks and wheel with the xl triples. but the triples appear to be closer together than the 550 so the wheel wouldn't work. Now my plan is to use the entire 550 front end. Just have to find a stem to test fit.

Is it possible to press out the 550 stem and press in the xl stem?

Thanks guys.
