i dont get some of todays "fashions"
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:48:37 AM »
specifically the pants pulled down past your ass showing 6" of your boxer shorts, or like the dip#$%* kid i saw today wearing shorts pulled down so low that the hem of the leg was about 3" above his ankles. what the hell is the point? i suppose people my age said the same thing about teenagers fashions when i was a teen but we never wore anything so damn dumb. and what the hell is up with the kids wearing a visor, backwards, upside down?

The more it bothers you, the more they like it. ;)

Now are you really trying to say that some of the fashions in the 80's weren't at least as dumb as that?

The pants around the ankles thing comes from prison, where they don't have belts and pants tend to sag.
yeah, I know makes no sense but what does these crazy days.

So maybe when you see one of these idiots ask him if he's advertising to be your #$%*.

My main pet peeve, is hats with the brims completely flat, tags still on them...and the hat just a little cockeyed...

I just want to walk up rip it off their head, give the brim a nice curve, and put it back on the RIGHT way.

A little bit cockeyed, hell they are spun way around.

And it kills me to watch them walking with the pants down but they have to hold them up with one hand. I watched one guy try and run that way, way crazy. Seems like you'd get a big time cramp in your hand/arm contantly holding your britches up like that.

But hey.........NOT MY PROBLEM.

yeah, some of the stuff people wore in the 80's was dumb as hell. i was a little hippy boy even then though. jeans, chuck taylor basketall shoes and flannel shirt when it was cold or a tee when it was warm. yeah the thing with the hat turned about 20 degrees off center is another one that bugs me lol. i cant imagine what 40 year olds said about our fashions 25 years ago. now, i have no prolem with piercing but one day my stepdaughter had a friend drop her off after work and this kid had, no exaggeration, about 15 pieces of metal stiking through various parts of her face. i couldnt help myself when i held up some jumper cables and asked if she needed a jump start. but then, i imagine there are lots of people that think i'm idiotic for having my arms covered in tattoos. gawd i'm turning into my parents  :D

Can't say the '80s were much better, though. :D

I'm not really into the ear rings that make big holes by stretching the earlobe.  If one grows out of it, what do they do with their stretched out ears?

And it's frustrating as hell trying to talk to a teenager about waiting to do it to their ears... because they "know" they'll never grow out of it.   ::)  They want it, and they have to have it now.  Luckily it wasn't my kid that I tried talking to - I'd have went nuts.

The great thing is to wait 20 years and those same kids will be saying "i dont get some of todays 'fashions'!" about their own kids!

lol @ the "right" way to wear a hat

When I was in the Army the "right" way was a helluva lot different than I wear mine now.  Then again I wear my hats flat-brimmed, with the sticker intact (no tag), and a little off to the side...

marky mark was the first i saw wearing his pants around his @ss. but then i never went to prison either.

the difference between the dumb fashion of the past and now is that now one can hardly walk in the idiot garb of today. i read about a cop running after a hood with stolen property. but his pants kept falling down and thus was caught.

also, the odd fashions of the past (except for the weirdo l.a. stuff) rarely stuck out as so incredibly stupid at the time. only in hind sight did it look so blatantly ridiculous. with the homie look today you don't have to be an old fart to see the resemblance to circus clowns.

hardly anyone looked like mc hammer outside mtv... or calf.

Close,it does come from prison,California prisons and it is a easy access thing from the Big Bubbas and their hoes. Nice huh? Learned that in college and a study of the prison systems. if those idiots only knew what they were expressing ............ well maybe they do

Call me a skeptic, but I still think the prison explanation is presumptuous.  I dont think anyone really knows where pants sag came from, and are drawing connections where they see them.  Kinda like the Mayan prophecy, but more retarded.

I remember the bandaid on the face fad not that long ago.  The first one I saw I thought, "Hey, that dude is cool; he cut himself shaving and he don't even care who knows about it."  Then I started noticing that everyone was shaving with dull razors.  Then it started looking stupid when I realized there was probably no cut under the bandaid.
