The concept of "Fads" was pointed out to me in a small micro way in grade 7"
Got to talking about in in a class one day with a very cool teacher. We gabbed and gabbed, finally the teacher said to the class do you want to do an experiment and try and start a fad? Sure, why not it beats doing homework

We decided on marbles. This would have been 1972. Marbles were that last thing any kid had on their mind. We had a hell of a time finding a store that even sold them, but someone did so we slowly brought them into school in those cool velvet bags. We started playing in small groups around the school, within a week younger kids were bringing marbles to school, we kept it up for a month or so. At the end kids in the class were reporting marbles being sold in local stores and others that they had seen kids at other schools with the "cool"
