Any tips on tires I should buy?
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:15:44 AM »
I purchased a cb550 in june, and I'd feel a little more comfortable riding on tires that aren't from 1977, do any of you have any suggestions? It would be much appreciated.
That's what I'd like to hear.

Starting a tire thread is semi-frowned upon, good suggestions will be offered, but conflicting advice is often given and arguments often result.  It's the same with asking about what oil is best.

Run a search here on the forums for 'tires', 'tire threads', 'what tire', 'which tire', and the like and you'll get an idea of what people are running on these bikes.
Generally, you get what you pay for.  Some tires are best for dry conditions, some are also very good in the wet.
It is generally accepted to mount a tubeless type tire with a tube on our bikes.
Always replace the rubber 'rim strip' and always use a new tube too.
Cheers and good luck.

No clutter here.  ;D It's just that what brand of "X" do you recommend or use can start some arguments that go forever. Tires, oil, grade of fuel, filters... Don't even ask about Dyna Beads.  :D

Bridgestone S-11's come highly recommended.

I'm into Michelin Pilot Activ myself.

Thanks for the recommendations, They are greatly appreciated, I've been doing some research of my own, and I'm slightly interested in the Bridgestone battlax, but I'm not sure if that'd be the route to go.

Bridgestone battleaxe (BT-45) - why would you NOT want super-sticky tires in the corners, in the wet and dry and good life? And great for NOT tracking on grooved pavement....

Andy's advice is sound. The man doesn't own a car so his tires see all weather duty, all year long.

Forgoing the brand XXX controversy, buy them in matched pairs.
Try not to mix and match from one brand or even models within the same brand to another.

Getting back to tires, I prefer the round black ones (remember I'm talking about TIRES or TYRES here, you sickos).

This makes me grin. I use dunlop D404s. They're fine. Nothing fancy, but neither is my riding.

i like my bridgestone spitfires, theyre pretty long lasting and theyre sticky enough that i'll never find their limit.
