79' cb650. Will be replacing carbs with 1974 cb750 carbs.
« on: October 12, 2009, 10:07:17 PM »
Hi...

Well, I have just about had it up to here >:( :-\ :-\ with the stock carbs.
I still cannot get #3 to fire, and the main jet emulsifier tube has stripped the
threads that houses it in #4.

I have a set of 74' cb750 carbs that I have cleaned, dipped, and am currently
have on the rebuild block. (waiting for rebuild kits). I pray to GOD that this will
solve my carburation blues

Anyone else do this modification? how did it work out for you.
I will be using 110 jets and POD filters.

Any suggestions?

Tell us how that works out for you eh, Soos plays with these conversions all the time, PM him or check out his threads as I think he has already done this and moved onto Kawasaki ninja carbs. ;D

Thanks. I looked up the kawasaki carbs.. but found nothing. Anyway, I already have 750
carbs and just ordered a rebuild kit set. I really need to know how this modification has worked
for anyone else.

What can I expect for trouble shooting and adjustments?

You might want to look into getting a set of CV carbs if they fit... A bit less complicated to work on and the slow jet just unscrews. Rebuilding my carbs has actually  been the most straightforward thing I have done to my bike thus far.

Thanks jeepster, but from what I have read here, it is my
understanding that the CV carbs will not fit on a 1979 cb650.

Correct, the CV carbs are spaced wider apart and do not line up well with the 79 heads, with a bit of fiddling around you could probably get them to work using say automobile radiator hose instead of the carb isolators. :-\

Soos traded me a set of 73 730 carbs (I think thats the year). I haven't fired the bike up yet, but I know he said he had been using them on his bike about 11 months ago. If you haven't already, PM him and see what he remembers. Worse case scenario I can pull them, but would really rather not. It's not that much fun takeing them on and off.

Hush is right, he works 12hr days a lot lately. Give him a few days and I'm sure he'll respond. Also, check out his build thread I'm pretty sure some of the info is in there.
