another type of inspiration gallery
« on: October 05, 2009, 03:05:15 pm »
was going through some pictures from my last race and found some shots of Luciano, a fellow racer who's runs a 750 duc.

Nice body language you say?

Agree, specially considering the guy is well into his sixties..... maybe 65 even.

Still not impressed? The thumb in his left hand is in good shape but the other four fingers are almost all missing. Don't even know he holds on to the bars.

Never got the guts to ask him how he lost them, but when somebody rides like that there might not be any need to ask.

Just in case you felt too old and weary to go out for a track day :-)

Nice pics. Older racers look the best on a track, I've noticed when I go watch vintage flat track, some of them really hobble around until they get on the track, and then they go like stink. You can tell the ones that have been doing it all their lives, they've made all the mistakes, and can't afford to repeat any of them.

What I like about being old is the surprise when you pull off your helmet!

OK I know 45 isnt that old but when some 23 y/o hotie follows you to a coffee shop and starts walking towards you...Until you pull off your helmet and your as old as her dad...lol

But I do cherish leaving young squids behind on their modern rockets while scraping metal off my 750 on a cloverleaf. Though the ZX12 leaves them even farther behind!

I got stopped by a CHP while I was riding my RC51 a little too "aggressive."  You should have seen the expression on his face when I popped my helmet and showed white hair!  No ticket for me that day!   ;D

BTW, he actually said he'd hoped that I was a young guy who'd try to outrun him so he could shoot! WTF?   :o  RR

Doesn't appear to inappropriate.

only reason i say that it because, other than the non-standard exhaust, unifilters, and buell throttle action, this '74 550 is stock.

 ;D

here's more action shots.

I remember when I first went to see a vintage race that my brother was competing in.  I saw the same thing, an old guy hobbling around the pits in leathers.  In my ignorance, I asked him what an old guy like him was doing "attempting" to race a bike. My brother laughed, and told me that he may be old, but he was still damn fast, and young racers eventually become old racers, but the skills are still there. A lesson learned for me.

LOL! Reminds me of a classic race I went to watch at with the wife. There was a stand and some guy flogging Arai helmets with an MV F4 behind him. I knew who he was and went up to talk to him, the wife liked him so started talking and they were chatting away for 20 minutes with a crowd around listening open mouthed.

As we finally walked away she said "He was a really nice old man, who was he?" at which point I replied "....he's only eight times world champion Phil Read!" ;D

interesting anecdote

I think that bike magazien had a story on him recently and asked aloud why he ended up being not as popular, at least not comparing to Haillwood or Sheene.

They have seemingly forgotten the way he stole the 250 cc title from Ivy. Good thing that some still remember what an idiot he's been.

There's some things that you just dont do i guess. Cant stop hating capirossi for the way he just took out harada in argentina, again, essentially stealing he title from his trusting team mate.

he might be still in the business after 20 years, for me he is still just an A-thing.
