coil output wire
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:36:32 PM »
So the new coils I got have compression fittings for changing/exchanging plugs wires.  Problem is, the are not marked in any way as to which wire is for which cylinder.  I am succumbing to the idea of having to figure out which leads go to which cylinder by pulling and swapping wires, but I am concerned that this won't help me at all, as the bike will be coming out of an extremely lengthy rebuild, and will be cold blooded enough as it is.  Is there a way to determine which lead is which with a meter or whatnot?  I figured not as there should be measurable continuity only between the two input wires, and again between the two output wires... right?

Each coil fires both leads at the same time, so it doesn't matter which plug wire goes to which plug as long as you have the 1-4 ignition wire from the points plate connected to the coil that's running the spark plugs for cylinders 1 & 4.  Same with 2-3.

So... you kinda got a 50/50 chance if you do it blindfolded.

Dang it.  After reading your responses, I recall a thread I found this morning dealing with someone's ignition issues, and somebody said something like that (each coil firing simultaneously) but it clearly didn't register.  I've seen an electrical schematic/drawing of the inside of a coil, and it makes sense looking at the picture and putting the theory along with it.  I love you guys :)
