CB160 Bottom End Rebuild
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:02:59 AM »
Pulled the head off the barn bike I just got to find cylinder #1 blown to pieces- pieces which are surely now in the crankcase. So, I'm going to do my first bottom end rebuild. Are there any special tools that I will need beyond that which is needed for a top-end rebuild? I have a vast array of wrenches and sockets, torque wrenches, impact driver, digital calipers...

Also, what can I expect to (roughly) spend on the bottom end rebuild, provided there are no major and unexpected problems?

Thanks!
Adam

Adam, I've never worked on a 160 but most of the small twins are much of a muchness.

The tools you have will do fine with the addition of a set of circlip pliers.

The rotor will probably pull off useing the back wheel spindle.

Remove the rotor bolt and screw in the wheel spindle. When it is up against the end of the crank, put a bar through the hole in the end of the spindle and give it a sharp hit, it should fly off.

Sweet, thanks. This will be my first bottom end rebuild, and I wasn't quite sure.

Have you got a work shop manual?

I have the PDF of the Honda shop manual. Computer is viewable from the shop, so that should be enough.

Adam, it looks a simple job from looking in the manual and using the rear wheel axle as a rotor puller was mentioned in there as well.

That's nifty. Are you looking at the Haynes? Or the Honda shop manual?
