wiring cb650
« on: October 07, 2009, 09:00:19 PM »
I just droped in a cb650 into mycb550 frame. Bolts right up. But here is my problem The 650 came from a 1980, and my frame is a 1974. No luck on plug and play.

I need advice on how to wire this sucker up. I have acess to the old wiring components.
But some of the old wire connectors were ripped apart.

Ive looked at wiring diagrams but i get lost. There is like 3 or 4 yellow wires coming off the engine. Their all yellow.

Please help!!!

yep, 3 yellows coming from your alternator, it doesn't matter which way round they go

Cool, that makes me feel better. Now is it possible to tie thoes wires straight into the electrical box for the 550?

What exactly are the yellow wires sapposed to plug into?

Thank you Scunny

They go to regulator/rectifier unit, each yellow is from a seperate charging coil winding in the alternator winding.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Just checked my Clymer manual, the white and black wires come from the alternator and go to the regulator.
Three yellows go to rectifier, other side of rectifier is one red and white wire to solenoid then onto fuse then onto battery.
Hope that helps.

Also there are 2 wires coming off the engine seperate from the ones that go to the rectifier, a blue one and a green one. What are the supposed to go to?
