Where to buy small drill bits for Main jets?
« on: October 08, 2009, 09:14:07 AM »
Hello I have a couple of sets of Main jets.

Instead of buying new I would like to drill these out.

Do you know who has a small kit? I have tried Sears, Bike shop, Autozone.

You think the bike shop would help but all they can do for me is sell me more jets.

I don't know exactly the jet size I need and I don't want to keep buying 4 at $3.50 each and find out I need to go up or lower again.

Thanks

Any decent engineering supplier should carry drills in letter sizes
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Drill bits aren't the best thing to use to resize jets.

That said you can get precision miniature drill bits at Harbor Freight and probably your local hobby shop.

Keihin jet size is the metric size of the hole with the decimal shifted, so 120 jet = 1.20mm hole, 125 jet = 1.25mm hole, etc.

If the 15.00 per set is killing ya, you wont like high performance biking.. They may be cheaper elsewhere.

Seriously, you are better off having an assortment, as once you are too rich, you will have to go smaller, & they dont have drills for that. ;). plus unmarked jets are a pain, moreso when you get mixed , unmarked jets.. :o

Dont expect Sears to have ANYTHING performance oriented..

If you have a 750 with a pipe and pods, I bet a set of 115,s and 120s is all you will need.

Don't use twist drills. Use straight-flute reamers. You can get them in letter sizes from McMaster-Carr.

You can actually buy jet reamers, too.  If there is any interest in accuracy.

Oh wait, that costs more than $15.

Some future owner of that bike is going to be beating his/her head against the wall if they ever try to rejet it again.  The numbers on the jet won't match the actual size if you ream them out.  Not sure that should change your mind.  Just sayin'....

Tower Hobbies or maybe a local hobby shop.

Did just that when I was screwing around with pods.  Went back to the air filter.

Good point.  You don't want to be a PO, do ya? ;D
