I just about vomited when I saw a news story on this.  Nothing against the man personally (though I don't like him as POTUS), but he has yet to have any real effect or results on improving the world.  Maybe later?  At the end of his term?  Who knows?

In all other areas, a Nobel awardee has to have produced something.  Chemists don't get awarded for daydreaming about some interesting experiment or discovery.  Authors don't get awarded for having a good idea for a book plot.  Yet the Peace prize has often been awarded to people who didn't actually bring about any great improvements in the world.  This is especially true for all the awardees who supposedly contributed to peace in the Middle East.  Huh???!!!    ???

Clearly the Nobel Peace prize is an empty, corrupt joke.  It should be treated as such.

Look, this was the same committee that said they had a real dilemma on their hands back in 1938 between Gandhi and Adolf Hitler.

That's all I have to say about this subject and the fact that I am not suprised at all.
The Nobel Peace Prize is a joke.

It's basically an award for not being George W. Bush.

If Obama is an "international rock star" as described by NPR this morning, then the Nobel Committee is now his biggest groupie. Yes, that's right. A Nobel Prize is now the equivalent of a blow job.

I so shouldn't chime in here but...

I voted for him, I think he's on the right track and has assembled a fine team - but there's no reason he should be given a Nobel prize. If anything this kind of fawning undermines his effectiveness as POTUS in the current climate.

As opposed to the old fine team of Wall Street shylocks? The more important issue isn't what I think of the team but that a sitting president who hasn't had a chance to actually make much happen yet isn't helped by having the Nobel prize awarded to him.

If I was the conspiracy type I'd say it was a deliberate attempt to thwart the agenda... but I'm not so we can all agree the Nobel Peace Prize is a piece of #$%*.

Bush had a horrendous team of advisors and cabinet members but at least they were from different parts of industry.

Obama's cabinet and advisors are NOTHING BUT Wall Street leeches, even the democrats admitted to that.

Then again what did Mother Theresa do for world peace when she won in 1979?  Now she did many great things but did she broker any peace treaties or bring warring factions to the table?  Maybe they based it her ability to inspire others,  I don't know what their decision process is.  While it may not be so obvious inside the U.S. much of the rest of the world breathed a big sigh of relief after the election, thankful that Bush was gone and hot headed, impulsive John McCain was defeated.  Maybe this had something to do with it, it inspired a lot of people.  No doubt this is a little premature but Obama can't control the Nobel committee so for everybody who wants to whine some more about the President maybe you should all just stick out your lower lip, pout, and whine like a two year old.  Wah wah wah.  Maybe hold your breath too. ;D ;D

Complete Joke.  He was nominated after only 2 weeks in office.  He still has not done a single thing to help the country. ???

Didn't Al Gore get one for narrating a movie?

I guess ACORN is more powerful than we thought.  They must have protested outside the Nobel office.

This is sort of like signing an athlete right out of the draft on a billion dollar contract because he has "alot of upside"

Potential is one thing but what the heck has he actually accomplished so far?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

To be honest I have been woefully UNIMPRESSED so far with his performance...he hasn't even walked on water or cured cancer yet!!

Mlinder, this is closer to the truth than you realize. He got a dog that crapped on US1. That means, since I have two dogs that probably would crap on US1 also, I should get two prizes.

srust58,
you remind me a lawyer friend of mine....pure party to the end didn't care who was the best candidate...only voted for his party's choice......but guess what.....our current POTUS has him rethinking his previous policies. He might even not vote his party next time.
I as an independent, was willing to give him every chance to succeed. It's a shame that he couldn't even get a single one of his campaign promises accomplished. An for that he deserves the prize? give us a break. maybe we should nominate moammar-kadafi next year huh?

Wait...eight months into his first term and he's supposed to have accomplished everything he promised?

To be clear - Obama has been in office 8 months and it's not his fault the Nobel committee is crazy. If he fails the country fails so let's get on board just a little eh? I'm more surprised folks aren't pissed the committee is trying to influence our politics - and in such a stupidly raw way.

Of course, it is kind of fun watching people lose their minds over this
