There's a better pic of a set of Dunstalls clip ons(or style) mounted on a bike in the "projects section". I cant find it, but its the cafe bike with a large sissy bar on it.

This the one you're looking for?

Yes, Here's the pic showing the clip ons

Here's another two questions, as I've never installed these.

What do you have to do to install these above the top tree on a CB650C? (Is there a special aftermarket tree top/connectors needed?)

How do grips and bar-end mirrors work?  Are their special grips with an open end? (These are the type of mirrors I'm looking at.)

They do make grips with an open end.  I don't remeber what company I saw that had them but my 550 had some.  I think it was spider if I remeber right.

Does that mean that they're not the standard, though?  What is done in the other cases - do you just lop the ends off standard ones?

get this type of clip-on
replace the straight bar with a piece of 7/8 pipe with a bend 2 inches from the end
    and you have adjustable rise/pullback.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

tomaselli makes some bars that attach to the top nut, they're raised and bent for adjust ability.

Just cut a hole in the end. Cheap easy and they look cool.

Same type of idea, but instead of bending a straight tube, just get a typical "drag" bar and cut it in half and use 1 half for each side. You can also mount the clip on clamps on the wrong sides/upside down (so they point up) to get even more adjustability out of them.

Good information, everyone.

So, all the mods for above-the-tree clipons seem to say that it's not the "right" way to go about it.  That's cool...learning as I go.

Does the top of the tree clean up nice, or does removing the existing bars leave unused mounts and such that can't be removed "nicely"?

Which is unfortunate.  Looks like another case where the 650 people get screwed.  I know they make billet tops for the trees on models look the 400, but nothing I've found for mine.

Hey, that's pretty slick...is the idea that you cut from the inside of the grips?

Here are some I'm thinking of, as they are very similar to my Vulcan's, which I love.

Yea you just put it on the intisde of the grip and hit it with a hammer and it cuts a perfect hole.   The local bike shop has it and says it works great.

I might actually steal that idea. I like that a lot. I was planning on mounting clip ons above the trees, cuz the gl front end is a little longer I believe, so I have room. I'll cut, grind, sand off the handlebar mounts and I want to put led idiot lights in the 4 holes that will be left behind. another idea from someone else here. sorry, I forgot who.

as my front end is now I grinded, etc off the gauge mounts. I have the fork mount speedo from cycleX. anyways it (triple tree) cracked. no biggie, I'm not using it, but I'm wondering if it was the removal of the mounts that weakened it for it to crack. could also have something to do with a bent fork tube.

Hmm...I'd take it then that this would only work with rubber grips, right?

Looking more like I'm going to have to go with clubman bars afterall...I hadn't fully realized that the headlight ears on mine are not easily removable.  Looks like I'd have to grind them off.  (This is, of course, discount doing a full front-end swap, which I don't have the know-how to figure out one that would work.)

Does Tomaselli have a homepage?  I can't seem to find it.  The Googles just give me hits for forums or 3rd-party sellers.

hey crippler...what are you doing about footpeg position? unless you want your bike to be the crippler you need to think about your body position as a whole not just throw a set of low bars at a bike and presto insta-cool, doesn't work that way.

BTW, if anybody wants clip-ons with a superbike bar bend, I have a shipment of such on its way to me. should be here in a couple of weeks.

I'm planning on rearsets.  I haven't found anything made specifically for 650s, but there are some universal sets that i've been looking into to see if they'll work.  If I can't find anything that will get the job done, the second idea is to see if I can find anyone that can fashion a set.  If that also falls through, I'd probably be scrapping the cafe idea - but i doubt that it will come to that.

For rearsets you could fab up a mount for a universal set.  I'm gonna go that rout since I can't find any for a 550f  going to buy a set for a cb400 I found onlinen that look clean and make my own mounts.
