I had been looking at these, but was still researching what all I'd have to do to custom mount them. As for fabbing a mount...I really don't have the equipment to fab a metal mounting bracket, which is why I'm still in the planning phase.

If you do some reasherch on the site their is a good thread on some rearsets and some ideas people have used and done. I don't remeber where it was since I'm. Not at a computer.

You might be better off buying rearsets from a modern bike on ebay. I got a nice set from an '05 CBR for $42 that look great. Mount easily with 1" frame clamps. There are a few threads on that type of installation.

I've seen a few threads that have mentioned those, but I fall of the train with two main things:

1.) Like front-end swaps, I wouldn't know where to start on what models would be compatable, and every thread I see is for a 550 or a 750 - never a 650

2.) I haven't seen any really good pictures of these frame clamps and can't visualize how they connect, or where on the frame they mount.

you're 650 should have 1" frame tubes. I believe they all do (honda cb's) I'm probably gonna do something like these: (decent pics)

I have gone without rearsets for a while and have somewhat low bars. the one thing I like about normal foot position is you can hold yourself up with your leg muscles instead of your arms. not so bad on the back. but not the best either. so for long trips it's a sore back or sore arms. not that I would ever complain. I never want to get off.

Maybe it was the choice of rearsets combined with the frame, but that first pic in the link looked all kind of ugly. They looked like what they are - something from a 30-year-newer bike bolted on to something else. I guess that's why people fashion mounting plates.

I've actually got a set of those 929 rear sets sitting around but i'm not certain how easy they would be to use on my 78f. Any ideas how I would connect the rear master to it?

I got my grips in the mail today...turns out those chrome caps on the end just come off with a philips screwdriver. Perfect.

these are super cool as well. only in 35. the clamps remind me of bullets.

in case you can't tell I don't know how to put 2 different quotes in the same post. I didn't spend much time on the net until I found this site.

gl1000 front end. 37mm. I've been on the net, just not forums and not that much. hadn't found anything this cool before.

'Guess that explains the lack of welded on headlight ears. That's what's holding me back from the clip-ons...not sure how to cleanly remove the stock ears to replace with clamp-on ones with clips above them.

I used a simular set to those on my Rickman "Replica". The foward mounting of bar in the tube clamp looked good, but mounted the bars too far foward and the reach was uncomfortable, even with rear sets.

those will slide right off. you have to take off the top 3 tree. and everything else along with it. you can probably do it all at once. as in leave all connected, just loosen the clamp bolts on your tree, then use rubber mallet to pop it off. not sure if you'll have room, but you might be able to move it aside with guages and all attached. then you can slide them off and put on other headlight ears that will allow room for clip ons.

to clarify: the ears are welded to tubes which are over the fork tubes, not welded to the forks themselves. the whole piece slides off.

What I have done in the past (for air fork fittings-KZ 900) was take the fork ears off and cut them down to allow the air fittings to fit between the top tree and the fork ear things. The KZ fork ears are 2 peice (tube cover and lower tree cover) and I believe the CB ears are 1 peice, but something simular could be done to get room to mount your clip ons in a simular manner.

yeah like greasyJ says, you just pop your top tree off and they come right off.
on mine they're held in place by rubber rings at the top and hold the fork gators on at the bottom
