$50 tracy body (next year's project)
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:13:38 AM »
The wife and I have talked for a while about building another 750.  It was only a passing thought until we stumbled across this Tracy body last weekend in Sandwich, IL and scored it for $50.  We will not be starting on this project until sometime next summer.  Gotta start gathering parts to build a bike under this :)

This body seems to be designed for a 73 - 77 Kawasaki Z1.  It more or less drops right onto a 750 frame.  It will need to be modded to fit the tank mount area.  I have a junk tank that I will be harvesting for this purpose.  The under-seat support lands squarely on the crossmember on the 750 frame just behind the battery tray.  Will need some bracketry to secure it at the rear frame crossmember.  Also concerned about clearance with the valve cover but looks to me like it'll fit.

The body itself is in OK shape, has one crack near the upper right shock mount, and one just behind the seat area.  Petcock bung is also broken off.  Gas cap is rusty.  Cannot pressure-test the tank itself but it passes visual inspection.

In addition this body lacks any provision for the 750's oil tank so a custom tank is in order.  Electrical panel will also need some attention as there's very little clearance, the body hugs the frame quite closely.

Current plans are for a lowered solo 750 in the K2-K6 range with a "small sports car" aesthetic.  Plans include dual front brakes, spoke wheels with color-matched rims, and a few motor hop-ups.  Basically building a runabout as an "alternate" bike that either of us can grab for quick trips through the twisties.

Here's the only pics I've been able to find of this body kit on other bikes

I know!  Sadly while my kit included the tail light lens, it didn't include a Magson supercharger  >:( >:(   :D

I'm not a big fan of the Tracy bodywork but the white KZ with the Z1R fairing doesn't look bad.

Did you do anything with the body?? I know this post is old but I've had a thing for those tank bodies for awhile, just keeps popping back into my head every now and then. For $50, that puts you in that category of major score

Hi!

Nope, the Tracy body is still in storage at the moment, although last weekend I came THIS CLOSE -->||<-- to buying a K0 frame to slap under up at the local swap meet.  Sadly, practicality won over and I won't be building up the Tracy bike until my current rebuild is complete, sometime this summer.  See my sig link for details on that.

My bike is a chopper, the wife's bike is a cruiser, the Tracy bike will be our street rod/rocketship.

:)

There is very little more exciting then the moment you see another piece to the puzzle and the smile creeps across your face.  ;D

Sadly, there is very little more pain in the ass then walking away with the "it would have been nice"  :-\

Not that you want to sell it but you should take a gander on ebay and see if the Kawasaki guys want it. The tracy body for a KWAK might be more rare than the same thing for a CB750. You might make a pretty penny and can still get a Tracy for a 750...

Eithr way good luck on the build!
