Iowa?
« on: July 07, 2009, 12:45:33 PM »
I haven't seen much activity from any Iowans for quite a while. Is anyone here? Specifically in the Des Moines area?

I'm here! I live north of Ankeny in Huxley. My project is a 1974 CB 550 bobber, currently not rideable. What is your bike? any pics? It's good to know about some local guys wrenching on old honda's. I'll post some pics. Since these pics I have shortened the seat and decided to shorten the exhaust for performance and ease of fabrication. I am also converting a fire extinguisher into a faux oil tank that will act as a battery box and storage for electrical connections.

I'm here in Iowa City and coincidentally, my name is also Zach.  I know we've got members in Ames, Davenport, Fairfield, and some other places that currently slip my mind.

Here's my SOHC. I finally got it running 100% this week, so now it's time to make it look pretty. I need a petcock (this one leaks with more than a couple gallons in the tank), a headlight/bucket, and I plan on fiberglassing my own seat.

Laminar,
I couldn't see your pic wanna post it again?
Here's my bike after I shortened the seat pan and the mock-up of my fake oil tank. It will house the electrical connections and have a rectangular box welded on the engine side for the battery.
Keep wrenchin!!

Laminar,

Stock idle jets, stock air screw position, stock jet needle position, 110 mains. Pod filters, 4-into-2 exhaust - headers empty into 2 1/2" pipes with custom baffles/fiberglass packing. Pipes empty into 3 1/2" resonated tips. It sounds awesome, pulls great throughout the RPM range, no sputtering or anything, and the spark plugs are a beautiful tan color.

Once I get a new petcock, it will be running 100% and it will be time to make it look pretty.

I live in Davenport and I like wrenching on my bikes.  Always good to hear of others working SOHCs

Start something and see if we get any interest! I might be heading overseas at the end of the month so it'd have to be in the next week or so if I was able to make it. Plus the weather's been crappy here and it doesn't look like it's going to get much better.
