69' Dude....(Guitar Amp Porn)
« on: October 10, 2009, 07:41:01 PM »
I brought home a 1969 Fender Bassman Head today. She soundsa nice. ;D

I work at a small town music store on the weekends, more for fun than money. I give guitar lessons, guitar repair, piano repair, and general stuff (worked there off and on since I was 17). Last year the old man passed away  :((the owner), and his personal amps are at the store. I worked out a deal with the son (current owner) to buy these amps over time. Work a little pay a little. The next one I am paying on is a 60's Gibson Atlas. I think this was his amp he used for his pedal steel guitars. Cool stuff.

Congratulations!
I've been a Fender user since the mid '60's. When set up well they're wonderful.

i REALLY miss having a fender tube amp. i had the 62 bandmaster and a 65 twin reverb. had a silverface fender champ too, not sure what year it was made.

Very nice.
Yes, I also currently have a 72 Fender Bandmaster head and I think a 71 cabinet. Sounds so good. I have to post pics.

Sorry, I missed your question. Basically I meant tubes, filter capacitors and biasing. I like to try to make the output tubes both see the same amount of voltage, as the amp will feel, in bike terms, like it has more torque. The bias control works differently on models from different years, but I believe on that amp, it regulates negative voltage to both tubes equally. Matching the resistors and output tubes so that DC voltage is divided to both power tubes to get them as equal as possible makes a difference to me. As an aside, one modification that I like on the two channel Fenders with 6l6s is making the two preamps so they overdrive each other. The volume control on the first channel acts as a gain control, and the second channel acts as a master.
