Chances are your going to need to rejet, or it may run crappy when you get into higher RPMs
That's what I'd like to hear.

I'm planning on doing basically the same thing. It would be nice to know what jets to run.
I have a 1970 CB350 SS, 1988 NT650(Hawk GT), 2004 BMW R1100S

You'll need ot rejet, and you'll need earplugs, or later on, hearing aids.

Neighbor are going to love you...especially on cold mornings when you need to leave it idling/gun it to get it warmed up.

Not to mention stopping every 80 miles to gas up when you finally find a suitably large jet size.

Lol...I assume that was a joke.

I know some that say that with a wink wink and others that honestly believe it.
I've never really understood that statement...

When you're in a car with windows up and traveling perpendicularly to or opposite direction of a loud bike you can't hear a thing...When do you hear it best...when you're behind it...that's not exactly going to help.  I don't want a silent bike, but one that hurts ears is over the top IMO

I for one hate riding with guys like that unless I'm the one in the lead position...that noise makes for a miserable ride when you're 20-30ft behind them

+1

Mine came with the "rust special" style exhausts, that GIANT holes before the baffles, and I just traded up for a used set of 4 into 2.  My ears are thanking me every day.  :D

I agree with you on 90% of your feelings.  There is one and only one place that I've figured out (after much thought) that the loud pipes do save lives.  When I put louder pipes on my Vulcan (louder, but not obnoxious) I noticed a marked decrease in the amount of times people lane-shifted when I was next to them without knowing I was there.

...but I don't feel that this is enough to justify the whole "loud pipes save lives" blanket statement.

i could just pull the megaphone assembly and get a cheap generic baffle to fit, and screw it in on the back side!! probably wouldnt be to loud then, but have a hearty roar!! i think.

My CB650 is running open pipes and really isn't that loud unless I'm cranking on it. Cruising down the road at 55 mph (about 3k rpm) sounds beautiful. However, I ran my CM400 on straight headers for exactly 20 seconds. Reminded me of a friggin top fuel dragster; that thing was stupid loud.

It depends on the bike I guess. My 650 has 2-2 headers into a 2" ID pipe which is 300 cc's per pipe. My CM400 has 1-1 headers into 1.5" pipe which is 200 cc's per pipe. Don't know why the 400 was so much louder...

I run a 4 into 1 MAC with the small, fibreglass baffle and it sounds healthy without being obnoxious.
Sounds sweeeeeet when you get on the throttle but I can still ease my way past the LEOs no problem ;D

It was a joke, But like the crippler said, I have found loud pipes to save my ass multiple times in the situation of people changing lanes without looking. that and when someone does cut you off and you have the opportunity to get up next to them, its fun to down shift into a lower gear, get the bike nice and wrapped up in the revs and just hang the exhaust right by their window and watch then plug their ears......

Other than that, the only other reason i have an unbaffled MAC is because thats what the PO had on it and i dont have enough money to switch. It doesnt bother me much as im still young and live close enough to Daytona beach to where its fun to take my bike down there with its open exhaust and piss off the harley guys with straight pipes....
