Replacement rims for CB550
« on: November 26, 2005, 11:56:22 PM »
i have some rusty (and one bent) spokes on my CB550 front and rear rims.  I have been looking at buying a pair of used replacements.  I thought i might as well replace the front with a CB750, because I read the bigger rotor would increase braking ability.

Question:  Ideally i want to upgrade to the CB750 rim, rotor, caliper, master cyl, but if I can only afford the rim with rotor right now, can my stock CB550 braking system handle the cb750 rim change in the meantime, while I save up for the complete 750 system?  Also, am I right that this upgrade would enhance braking, and is it a bolt-on upgrade?

thanks,
MattClark

750 rotor will not work with 550 forks and caliper. If you just want spokes they are about £15 each set from www.davidsilverspares.co.uk and he also does quality japanese pattern rims at, i think, about £30 each. 750 brake no better than 550 anyway

All these guys have are stainless and chrome.
Chrome are least expensive at $US75/wheel delivered to USA address.

Know anyplace else that might have the plain old standard zinc plated steel spokes for abotu $US20-30/wheel?

Thanks for the info.  eBay has a pretty regular assortment of 550 wheels, and I think I'll look for a deal on there for the whole wheel (maybe one in my area to avoid high shipping costs), plus, I might be able to spot a wheel with a good tire still attached and save a few more pennies there.

I'm really interested in upgrading to the dual disk conversion as recently expained in the FAQs.  I'm amazed that it's such an easy operation, and I'd like to the first on my block to give it a go.
