fine scratches on chrome

Has anyone ever got out fine scratches on chrome before?
I am in the middle o restoring a 71 cb750 former rust bucket, I just cant get out those fine scratches I caused when removing the rust

I use turtle wax chrome polish and a high speed makita rotary buffer witha wool pad. You gota watch how much pressure you use. If you go into the copper part of the chrome the part is dead meat without a rechrome. This stuff does not "eat" at the chrome all that fast so you would have to fall asleep with your weight on it to burn through.

If you want to try it by hand, get some Simichrome polish.

Use it on your cases and forks, too - they'll really shine up! Wax afterward to keep the shine longer.

I have used a buffing wheel with a stiched buff and white compound. The white is almost for polishing and will go slow, you might start with a red compound. I think that is usually called "jeweller's rouge".

I slip my wedding ring on a taper shaft, chuck it up in my lathe and polish it perfect in 2 seconds!
