wireless car charging?
« on: October 12, 2009, 12:30:24 PM »
A German supplier of electronics and powertrain design to most of the major automakers for the last 25 years has just secured a patent that could be a game changer for electric vehicle adoption. Their technology would allow electric vehicles to be charged as they drive over any road embedded with a recessed wireless recharging strip, using electromagnetic induction.

Ingenieurgesellschaft Auto und Verkehr (IAV) says the technology will be available commercially within 3 years, is insensitive to weather conditions, and is not susceptible to mechanical wear.

As Wilfried Nitschke from IAV says, “The road is then the range extender.”

yeah me too, I think they should be focusing on how to run our internal combustion on water.

or maybe I should say "they should get up off stan meyer's work and apply it"

I'd say it's about time somebody got on the Stick
since Nikola Tesla got a patent on a similar item 100 years ago !

Unfortunately while Tesla was presenting this idea and others to an
assemblage of important folks he happened to mention that he could also
make a "death ray" out of the thing. His stock dropped dramatically and people
concluded that he was a nutcase--he may have been, but I'm convinced that many of his ideas were valid
and were many years ahead of their time.

Funny that on his death the FBI confiscated all his designs including the design for the deathray machine.
He designed a system of electrical transmission that used the ground as the conductor and proposed free energy for anyione that wished to tap it. Edison would hear none of this, ever heard of ConEdison Electric?

I've no doubt it works.  It's the implementation that will be problematic.  Not in the vehicle, but the roadways being replaced/retrofitted.
Certainly opens the door for a lot of new tollways, and centralized "traffic control" over your "privileges".

And when the energy company, (that doesn't have enough control/profit nowdays  ::) ) has a brown out, (or terrorists take out power stations/relays, we can all relive life as it was in the 1800s!

I think it would be smarter to pay the power company for the up keep of solar arrays that power the street charging systems.
they probably wouldn't make as much money from it, but it would offset the carbon footprint more than the coal burning power plant.

with the water car
I liked the idea of splitting the water atoms in the combustion chamber. rather than the alternative
-a #$%* load of batteries.

I was boiling bottled water on the stove one time, and it boiled over a bit.
It was overflowing onto the burner and kept popping with about fist sized flashes of fire.
it was close to the connection leads but it wasn't a spark it was fire.
I wish I had my camera at the time.

pissed me off, and I haven't been able to reproduce it since.

Tesla got $300,000 dollars from J.P. Morgan
and built a 100 foot energy transmitting tower out on Long Island.
He still ran low on funds and there is one area of thought that
has Tesla making one last ditch test of his rig and
with some apparent miscalculation, causing the 1908
Tunguska event which flattened 500,00 acres of pine forest in central Siberia.

Regarding the induction charging, wouldn't there be a lot of juice in the street and a lot of losses transmitting it into the cars? I guess if power generation became a lot less expensive than petroleum combustion it might be more feasible.

Regarding the water power, doesn't it take more energy to split the molecule than you can get out of burning the gases? I haven't done much research on this but that is just my first blush.

Sorry to spoil the fun. I'll take some tin foil, too. Protection of procreation ability taking top priority, of course.

around these parts coal and nuke provide the juice. call me a wet blanket but i think radioactive waste sitting in the ground for a 1000 years or more is pretty polluting. if everything runs on electricity in the future, like so many seem to advocate, electricity will be one very expensive fuel even if we mow down all our crop fields for wind machines and buy our tainted food from china.

simple answer to that: a hefty diesel generator to power the molecule splitting thingy.

kidding aside this is an interesting development, as too the pee- technology. gives new meaning to "go juice".

Yes, but that's the one fact that most people tend to overlook in their rush to believe that they will soon be able to power everything with water, for next to nothing.
