Stupid Bike... I'll show it making fun of me
« on: December 15, 2005, 12:48:40 PM »
Ok so here goes. I'm pulling a u-turn (to the right) in my neighborhood today, and the bike dies on me. Ok no big deal maybe I fooked up somehow. So I start it back up and out of curiosity do it again. Same thing. So i put it in the driveway up on the center stand with the engine running and turn the bars to the left, nothing happens the bike is happy as happy can be. Turn the bars to the right, and about halfway the bike dies. WTF?!?!?!?!? Repeat, the same, repeat the same. So i've got stuff to do I so I park it. About an hour later,I go to check it out and nothing. No headlight, no start, not a noise. So I put in a battery that I know is good, and still nothing. Then I jiggle some of the wires by the throttle cable and there is the headlight and the bike starts up. I'm guessing I need to check connections, but where do I start? The bike is a 1980 CB650.

I took the bike to the dealer to get some work done, which included a new throttle cable, when he put in so it pulls on this central stack o' wires. Now i've got a bone to pick with the dealer...goo

My vote is with Kyre.  I had a broken wire coming from the idiot light console.  I was just motoring down the road about 65 when it quit.  Took me a while to find, but I'll bet it's somewhere around there.

I had a similar problem. My vote is with kyre. Mine was simply fixed by adding a zip tie to hold the whole mess together at the ignition switch.

I wouldn't say the dealer is entirly blameless, but it could just be a very simple fix. My old '83 Nighthawk had th same problem. Turnd out to be a wire in the ignition switch that was simply loose and would back it's way out of the connection after a time. Turning to th right amplified the issue. All I needed to do t fix it was push the wire back in place. Simply tightening the sleev part of the connector would have been a much more perminet fix, but I was far too lazy for that.   ;D ;D

Since it started after you took it to the dealer, I say take it back to them and ask, don't yell, but ask them to look at it. You catch more flies with honey... blah, blah, blah....  ::)

WOW

I can not believe someone else had a problem with the idiot lights shorting out the bike. It does take awhile to sort out the wiring. You just have to bite the bullet and go for it. Do one section at a time untill you find it. GOOD LUCK :)
