Motion Pro SyncPro vs. Morgan CarbTune?
« on: April 28, 2016, 08:45:03 AM »
I've had a difficult time balancing my carbs using vac gauges and looking at the 2 in the title. Anybody tried both for a comparison? Which one are you using and why please? The motion pro one needs to be calibrated each time and that seems a good thing because each bike will be different. However they say to adjust to the master carb which the early bikes don't have.
Opinions please?
If this topic has been beat to death before please forward that thread.
Thanks,
Cliff.

Yes, Ive used a Morgan...on my 350F.
Pretty easy to use.....but I have and use the dial gauges, off brand, but consistent.
You can calibrate them to ANY carb.  Doesnt have to be a slave carb, and they shouldnt need calibration before each use.
I calibrated mine back 6-7  years ago when purchased, and then again this season.  Only slightly off on 2 dials.
If you have to calibrate before each use, and make adjustments, I would think the gauges would be suspect  :-\

I have the Motion Pro Liquid Filled Manometer style set and it works well. Downsides to it are that you have no values to the markings like on a gauge. The dashes are just there to line up all the liquid columns, and you do have to calibrate it every use. I would like a good quality gauge set but for the amount of time I use them this set works fine.

In my experience, Motion Pro tools are garbage -- they'll work OK for a year, then the fluid gets bubbles in it, the values flutter, etc.

I had a mercury tool that I never had problems with, but left it in Boston when I moved back West.

After some research (and input) from folks here, I got a Morgan tool, but I haven't used it yet. People rave about them, however.

I have used both the Morgan and the Motion Pro.  Morgan is quicker and easier, more rugged and durable, Motion Pro is more sensitive and accurate...as long as you can follow directions!  I doubt the added accuracy makes any real difference unless you have a bike with some ultra finicky cv carbs.

All my cb750's ran fine for years and thousands of miles with just a good, careful bench sync, just didn't have that super smooth idle.
If it works good, it looks good...

Morgan in my shop for the past 10 years...easy and accurate. My Morgan came with brass fittings I hear they come with plastic now. I did invest in a couple brass extensions for carbs 2 & 3.

It appears the Morgan Carb Tune is the way to go by 5 to 1. Thanks again. I will order one real soon. Cliff.

Looks like you have your answer, but I'll pile on. I love the Morgan Carbtune too. I've used it many times on many different bikes. I did have to disassemble mine to clean it once, but the website has great instructions on the procedure. It's a simple, solidly-built tool that should last your entire life. Highly recommended!

+1 on the Morgan Carbtune. My only issue with it are the plastic fittings. They work just fine, you just have to be careful with them. It works very well, accurate and easy to use.

I have the motion pro synch one and it works just fine. I have never used the morgan and would love to have a chance to use it at some point. My original motion pro with mercury broke years ago.

If you go with motion pro, you will have to change the fluid out on a annual basis, it just dries up a bit. I do like the calibrating feature. I'm curious if I can find a substitute fluid that won't act this way.

Since you don't have a master carb, pick one carb and never adjust it. Simply adjust the other 3 to the one you pick.
