Calling Corona, CA GET A DEAL ON HIGH PERFORMANCE SHOCKS!!!!!!
« on: October 14, 2009, 07:17:18 AM »
Perhaps my original wording was too subtle?

Last weekend at the Barber Vintage Festival I got into a conversation with one of the guys from Race Tech Suspension.

http://www.racetech.com/

Race Tech is interested in expanding their line to include more vintage applications and one of the first things they want to tackle is the SOHC 4 Honda.

They need a well-sorted SOHC CB 750 for R&D purposes.  They would need to borrow the bike for a few weeks and ride it around with various experimental shocks bolted to it.  I am not clear on the details but I was assured the owner of this bike would be well compensated.  Race Tech makes really, really nice suspension components.  You do the math.

By "You do the math" what I mean to say is "If you let the guys from Race Tech borrow your bike for a few weeks they'll hook you up with a really, really good deal on some high performance shocks."  If I had an economically feasible way to get one of my bikes to them I would take them up on this deal myself.

Interested individuals in the vicinity of Corona, CA should contact me at their earliest convenience at bigbob (at) ameritech (dot) net.

People who are interested in purchasing high quality custom made shocks for their vintage bikes (of any make or displacement) should contact Race Tech and encourage them to continue developing products for the vintage market.

Thanks.

Were they talking 750 shocks for racing or for street use?

if for the later, then dont get discouraged but considering racetech prices (1000$ a pair before options), I cant think of many 750 owners that'll want to shell out that kind of money when IKON's, etc, give good service for a fraction. I might be wrong of course....

racing shocks would be another story but in that case their market is waaay more limited. How many members in sohc4 actually race, less than a dozen? and are they willing to pay that kind of money (or more like 1500$ for adjustable damping) for their vintage racer suspension? .....

would love to have a pair of those shocks in my racer, but not at those prices.

As I understand things?  Either.

If they come out with these shocks I'll be putting a set on my next race bike.  I'm moving out of Production class next year and my suspension options will be expanding quite a bit.

Are they expensive?  Yes.  But seeing as we've got subscribers that are willing to pay big money for 1000cc SOHC engines I figure some of those guys are going to want to be able to apply that power to the ground.

For what it's worth I agree with you.  And I would not rule this out.

But I'm not a representative of Race Tech.  I was asked by one of their employees if I might be able to find someone willing to talk to them about the loan of a bike.  I've done what I can.  What agreement the owner of the bike is able to make with Race Tech is up to them.

It's an opportunity for a Single Cammer in the area of Corona, CA that I'm sharing with the list.

Hei bob

Nice to hear about another racer, come join us at the new racing and hi-perf section of the forum.

any chance to see a pic of your racer?

I race in the italian vintage championship and even the very fast guys on top open class 1100cc vintage superbikes seem to do well on much cheaper shocks like Ikons or the ones from amortizzattori.net.

I am actually racing on old refurbished Koni's but my little 500 puts out only a puny 62hp.

Happy for you that you can afford racetechs though!

like terry in aus said......putting 1000 dollar shocks on one of our bikes is like buying a 20 dollar hooker a mink coat.

Yeah?  Well, it's pretty easy for me to say I'm going to buy something that doesn't even exist yet.  So don't be too happy.

if my bike was running I would make my way to corona for super high end shocks. I can't believe no one is taking them up on this. of course I would not pay a grand for rear shocks. not that my $40 bike isn't worth it. if I was rich I'd buy lots of outrageous stuff for my baby. alas, I cannot. maybe the racetech factory needs a paint job and we can work a trade. :P

hei bob, we are still waiting for a proper shot of your bike!

Nag, nag, nag.

Here you go.  1970 Honda CB 750.  Stock displacement (thanks to Millennium Technologies for nikasil plating and decking to cylinders), head cleaned up (seats and guides by G&G machine shop in Rantoul, Il), carbs dialed in.  Dyna ignition.  Drilled and milled front rotor, pads from Vintage Brake, one piece braided stainless line, Brembo master cylinder.  51 tooth aluminum rear sprocket.  18 inch rims with heavy duty spokes from Buchanan's, Dunlop GT 501's.  Tire changing by Chicago's own Mr. Yamaha, the No-Mar Ninja.  Pipes were cut and re-baffled by my racing mentor Garry Bird of YMRacing.

This pic is from The Barber Vintage Festival a few weeks ago.  Bike, crew chief/hauler driver/mechanics assistant/cheerleader/right arm Jennifer, and the incompetent hack that rides the thing.

Hey!  Back on task!

Enough of this chit-chat about Barber.  If you've got a well-sorted CB 750 in the vicinity of Corona, Ca you need to get in touch with me.  All you people that want to talk about The Barber Vintage Festival, I've started a Barber thread over in the racing forum.
