Starting a Motorcycle Club?
« on: October 14, 2009, 05:08:41 PM »
Has anyone ever done this?  I have been to various motorcycle functions, but none have ever really appealed to me.  So perhaps I was inspired by the Barber Festival this weekend and I decided to draft up a proposal on the local craigslist:

I have already received several responses.  I curious to see how it turns out.

PS:  I realize I have not posted here in a while.  I sold all my SOHC4 bikes and bought an SV650, then a Kawasaki W650 and now I ride a 2001 Triumph Bonneville.

Irishguy, let me know how it turns out. There is a local club here I'm a member of but the bunch as a whole
are to damn elitist for me.  Sounds odd coming from a Ducati rider eh? The local club is made up of Va Tech
folks mostly and you know how the college professor mentality goes over. Anyway, your sound like a great idea,
keep us informed.

That's pretty cool, there's no substitute for a good bunch to wrench, ride, eat, drink, and BS with.
In Boston www.nehondaguys.info is the forum it's all centered around.  We're not all Honda Guys anymore but we do get together often enough for a 'Beer and BS night' at one pub or another, and we schedule group rides often.

Yeah...  This is the kind of thing I am talking about.  My wife and I are in a sports car club for out two Miata's already and it is really a well done club.  Tech days, ride outs, events, dinners, get togethers, all kinds of fun stuff.  I really want to pattern our motorcycle club after that.

Then we will branch out into prostitution, illegal weapons, drug dealing, extortion, etc...   ;D

Just kidding about that last part.

Craigslist is a good route to go if it's pretty active in your area.  I helped get our local classic bike group together by using Craigslist and word-of-mouth, and we're still going strong five years later.

That is exactly the plan.  Thanks for the response.

Just make sure that, when the club gets completely out of control and the sex, drugs, and violence are way over the top, you walk around wringing your hands saying "I never meant it to be this way..."

Then, write a memoir about it.  Someone will option it for a screenplay for sure.   :)

Seriously, though, it sounds like a lot of fun.  Good luck.
One day, I will put up a signature.
