Honda Dealer Chopper Conversion 76 CB750k
« on: October 11, 2009, 09:43:45 AM »
I am looking for information concerning my CB750k.  The bike was purchased from a Honda dealer in Pittsburgh, PA in July 1976. It had a dealer installed chopper conversion (longer fort tubes, handle bars, king/queen seat, longer center kick stand). There are two model/serial number tags on the bike - one from Honda and the second from the State of PA. A friend told me he worked at a Honda dealer in the 1970's somewhere in PA and actually did the dealer chopper conversions.

I have since put the bike back to its original factory configuration with Honda parts (mostly new), but would like to find an article, advertisement, or other information on this subject. I found several articles about the CB750k, even one on chopper conversions – but not dealer conversions, on the SOHC Club web site.

I ride the bike regularly and it is an absolute joy - it now has 12,000 miles; carbs require a little tinkering from time to time but it has been highly reliable and I am amazed how quick and smooth it is for 1960's technology. I would appreciate any information on the 1976 and particularly on dealer chopper conversion.

There would be no limit to what a dealer could do, I suspect they were open to changes on it anyway.

Not sure what you are asking, sounds like a singular dealer thing..

I bet tho , at certain times & places, you could put them doghumpingyourleg unraked 750s out in the lot and sell them as fast as you put em out there..

It sounds like a R-title. Reconditioned like it was in an accident.

Hmmm - good point - it could be. My freind who worked at a PA Honda dealer told me the PA issued reconditioned titles because chaning the front forks was a change to the suspension. His dealership figured a way around the recon title. I sent you an email and photo about the details.  The bike is now in texas and I was able to get clean and clear title - with out recon. I found where the State of Pa will do a title search for $5.00 - I have the form and will send in the info to see what they come up with. I sent you and email w/photo

I have a 1973 750 k that had 6inch over front front forks and bunch of other crap on it. It also has a second tag just as yours. But mine was under the seat. If you look at the date on yours is says issued july 22 1976 and your bike is a 1976 correct? Mine is a 1973 and the second tag reads issued ?? - ?? - 1973. So the bike wouldnt even be a year old. I think this is odd. Being that they are both PA bikes with weird second vin tags issued within the first year of the bikes being made.

Yep mine is a 1976 - does not look like it has ever been wrecked.  It had 6" over fork tubes, king/queen, chopper bars, longer center kick stand; also longer speed omiter cable and brake lines. All this is has been removed and replaced, but I have all old parts.

Let me know what info you find out about from the State of Pa. I called the pa dot and got some a-hole named Logan who was a real douche bag and needs to learn some customer relations skills. All he could say was you will have to ask the person who originaly got the recon. title. Thanks alot LOGAN!
