Oil Filter Use
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:56:19 AM »
I know most people replace their oil filter every oil change. How about a K1 or any other vintage bike that does not get many miles each year? The reason I ask is this...with driving 3 CB750's in the summer my K1 only hit 764 miles since I changed the filter 4 months ago. I religiously change my oil at the end of every riding season, but with 764 miles on the OEM filter I think it is just a waste to toss it out. I know there is a small amount of old oil in that filter which should be of no real concern since the oil in my bikes rarely gets over 1,000 miles a season. Your thoughts???

I change mine every time, but that's mainly because I can never remember if I replaced it the last time or not.  It's probably a good idea, though, because my K1 gets more use than any of my other vehichles.  The recommendation is to replace the filter every other oil change, so I'm sure it's fine to do that, but changing it every time won't hurt anything either, and considering the few bucks a new filter costs the price of doing so is of little importance to me.

The sticker on my K1 oil tank says ' change the oil and check the filter every 2000 miles '.......so, no schedule for changing the filter !!
I'm sure you can go 2 oil changes at 1K miles without worrying about the filter then.....IMO.
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Honda say oil every 1500 miles filter every 3000 so yes 2 seasons in your case would be OK BUT for the cost is it worth it?

Yah, that is what is playing in my mind. I have a couple here so I think I will just change it and think good thoughts about super clean oil... ;D
