Topic: frame cut, what can i do?

i bought a 71 cb750, and it looks like the previous owner cut the frame so he could take the head off with out pulling the motor out. While i think that this would be a great accomplishment on these old hondas, this guy went about it with no tact, and cut it up. there's a 6-8" piece missing from both of the smaller frame tubes that run from mid bike to steering tube.
what can i do about this? is there any way to repair it? or should i just scrap the frame? I wanted to make a custom bike out of it. i still have the motor and other parts. your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Can be easily fixed. or a kit put in, to be a removeable section..

 Many have ridden them the way yours is, not good for roadracing though..

Gordon (Ilbikes) doesn't make the kits any more but someone should be able to whip these up for you pretty easily.

A skilled weldor could have new tubing back in there in an hour, but a kit like above still lets you work on the head without unshipping the motor.

This was a fairly commoon modification for the purpose you surmise. Mine is that way. I have a frame tube removal kit. I did roadarace mine with this kit and no problems. Many threads on this in the forum.

I just put a kit like in the picture in mine, I've had it for a while. It's tack welded now and I will finish it this winter. APE used to make a kit with tubing that sliped over the frame tubes and bolted on, this would be lighter but maybe not as strong. Disturbing but not a 4 alarm emergency. Many drag bikes were like that in the seventies.
