I hope it is an easy fix for you Cliff. For what it is worth, my KO center stand was bent when I got the bike. Turned out the PO had to bend it to make the 4-2 exhaust fit. Any chance the PO bent yours?

There is a large flat spot on it from a crash I'll bet. I have another to compare it to but it's in rough shape too. Some of the bikes went through hell to get to us.

Cliff,

I cannot begin to tell you....how happy I am that the frame itself is O.K., especially seeing how the frame was already straightened on the front half.

Now....where in the hell do you find a K0 swingarm??? I didn't even know there was a difference! What are the differences?

So....once one is sourced, you will need to get some bushings installed and then powdercoated.

disaster averted! This makes my day!

P.S. So....you are going to sell this bike to me when done.....right?

(seriously, I would buy it, if you were to sell it)

Thanks Joe! Yes, happily, it seems the frame is ok. I'm still kind of perplexed by the comparison of the "bent" one and another one I have, K2+. They both measure and look the same. The K0/K1 swing arms have kind of a tab affair at the front of it that the plastic chain guard slips into. The later ones have a threaded higher tap that the metal chain guard is screwed to. Details, details.
I think I'll have to put the "bent" one back in and see if all this just comes down to operator error. Boy will I be embarrassed if it is.

If the swingarm IS bent, perhaps IT can be straigtened out instead of digging for another one?

Gratz man so glad to hear its fixable. Don't skimp on the details now.. keep going and if you need a new swing arm then keep looking there has to be one out there some place with your name on it..

I'm thinking now it's more in the pivot bolt and collar area that may be out of line, skewing the swing arm off to the side. I'll do some measuring today. I had to drive the collar out of the swing arm and it had some scoring on it from lack of lubrication in the past. The collar in the other swing arm slides out easily. There's no visible damage to the front of the swingarm, maybe it's inside?

Just to keep my build thread up to date. I started another thread regarding the frame fiasco here http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=72213.0
So the next step is to take it to a local guy who has a cage to strap the frame into it to isolate the part that needs straightening. I've ordered a new rear fender but will use an old one to use to check that it's centred now. Then new tires. Should I go with my favorite, the Dunlop TT100's or tires that are more factory correct? like the Metzlers like these http://www.americanmototire.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=33_108_119&products_id=1383

I got them from my dealer as he gives me a discount on my stuff. They are stock size called Continental K112's. Be sure to get new tubes too. My rear was K112 - 400H18A cost was $132. The front was the RB2 325H19 and cost was $100. Then they give me a discount for mounting too. You may be able to find them other than your dealer at a cheaper cost, but my dealer treats me pretty good so I want to do business with him.

More interesting findings. I wanted to see how the seat pan will sit on the frame before I get it recovered/redone and low and behold it sits off centre, much to the left. The tank is centred over the frame rails as you can se from the pics below but the seat is way off. It's off to the frame pros for sure now. It looks like the entire rear section has been moved over a bunch. I don't remember picking up on this when I took it apart. I did have the steering head straightened but could this be from that process? There's no signs of damage to the frame rails anywhere.
This is getting disheartening.
Eric, do you still have that K0 frame, is it a **/69?

Man, that frame issue is sure depressing Cliff. I feel for ya". Hard to believe it could be that far off. You have been putting heart and soul into this project. Continue on and it will be remedied. Good luck with it...

Keep in mind it took me over a year to get my KO tank remedied with the pin holes. I thought it would never end. 2 fixes and 3 paint jobs later it finally is sorted. Keep your focus on the completed project and that should help get you through this part.

That's great. I have nearly the same inspirational pictures up for my CB450 project right now.
It helps me after I botch up a job or hit the wall.

Next baby step.
I covered it up and walked away for a bit and feel refreshed so time to check the wheel alignment front to back to see if things line up. I borrowed 2 long pieces of angle iron from a friend, set them up on 4 x 4's front and rear, laid the rails tight to each side of the rear tire and measured the distance from the rail to the front and rear of the front rim. I shot a picture of the measurements. As you can see it appears to be in line or very close to it. This is not going to a racer so I hope it's good for street riding. The difference from side to side is very small, if I'm reading this right. I'll have a friend that told me how to do this come by to double check. Any pointers to help further?
Further, I laid a straight edge against the inside of the drive sprocket and the primary sprocket and they line up.
So, hopefully it's just to pull the top rear of the frame to the right a bit and carry on.

And, further to the seat pan not lining up, "upon further review" the seat pan mounts are bent all to hell, the ones that bolt to the seat pan. I compared them to my K1's which line up nicely just to check. I'll pull some mounts off an old seat, put them on the K0 pan and see what happens. I'll do this after my friend drops by to check my work in the post above. Another baby step forward.

Done, they came back to normal quite easily. The question is how did they get that way without major trauma to the area around them? I'm beginning to think this bike has a very colourful past. It's also showing me how much I still have to learn about these wonderful bikes.

I believe you are correct.. It would be so great if we only knew the entire past of these old beauties!

Oh wait, I guess these forums are one way to document it. However it would be nice to know all the past tho.
