72 CL350 sidecovers: how do they come off?
« on: October 17, 2009, 12:14:04 AM »
A friend of mine just got a 72 Honda CL350 Scrambler. The bike has the original tank and sidecovers, and they are pretty fragile. Im wondering how the sidecovers come off? I got the two tabs on top to pop out, but it looks like there is a allen head bolt in the lower middle. It seems like they are holding the sidecovers on still. I dont want to force anything and break it. The "bolt" isnt an allen head or standard or phillips, its just round inside. Anybody know how these come off? thanks.

The stock covers are held on by the thing in the center of the side cover. The air box has a rod going through them with a nut with a round end on the ends of them. The side covers have a rubber instert (inside the chrome metal cover, the thing in the center of the cover) that the round part of the air box nuts "snaps" on to. The side covers should pull off the center thing and then it gets pulled off the top rubber mounts.

The left side cover usually needs the exhaust removed in order to remove the side cover(with the CL exhaust- high scrambler pipes).

If your side covers have an actual allen bolt in the center, it has probably been changed from stock and the allen bolt would need to be removed first.
