Driving the bike to work yesterday and noticed a different tone coming from the exhaust. Took a peek after I got to work and noticed a hole the size of a nickle in the left outboard muffler. Damn. So after I got home, I took off the pipe and ground the hole out to some solid metal (now about the size of a quarter). Cut out a patch and welded it shut. Hit is with some silver metal flake paint and she's good to go for now. The patch is on the bottom, so it's not noticeable.

Even though this bike just sat for 25 years, the pipes are still succeptable to rusting away. Has anyone had a set of pipes replated after a repair?

Busy weekend with the bike. Installed K&N filter and got Dunlop 501s mounted up. Changed the fork oil and buffed out a few parts.

Got my seat back from being recovered this week. I think it turned out pretty nice.

I'm a little over 2,000 now.  What's the story on your bike. Any pics on here?

It's a '77 CB550, it to has drag bars on it. I bought it for $200,  not running of course. The PO let it sit for "a few years" considering it had 1992 tags on the plate. but now it runs great, here are a few pictures.

Very nice! Mine had also not been registered since '92.  Your tank and front forks seem to have weathered better than mine. My PO had to replace the original tank as the bottom had rotted out. I still have it though.

Funny how that works.  My 750F had been stored for 25 years since about 1983 with a 2/3 full tank. After a long cleaning process it is solid and good as new with no need for a tank liner.  Mine had 6800 miles on it.  Great find by the way.

It would seem our bikes are long lost brothers... haha
