Ignition switch problems

Hey everybody!  The ignition switch on my '76 CB750F had a short in it so I purchased one of the Emgo units off ebay and installed it.  Well the first one I got was defective, but the second one works.  Except now by blinkers don't blink.  The light comes on, but no blink.  I checked the voltage up to the switch and it's good, but with the switch in the on position the voltage drops to around 7.  I'm thinking that I got another broken switch - is this common?  Could there be something else going on that would cause this?

Get the real deal from Honda and be happy.  ;)

I agree. If your losing more than a small fraction of a volt thru the new switch, it must be junk.

I had a similar problem with a stock switch. couldn't figure it out, then realized it was just not pushed in all the way. that fixed it. but every time I turned the wheel all the way to park or something it would pull out just a tad and do it again. everything else would still work. ended up using duct tape. :P

New switches for 75/76 750F are not available from Honda. Don't I wish!!! If you know where one is I'd be very grateful!

Anyone know of a replacement 5 prong connector that will fit the 75/76 F? Anybody tried a 5 prong connector from a different model?

www.cmsnl.com/ are showing these as being available.
Honda Part # 35100 377 007 if this is the correct part #.

That is one of my book marked sites also. Unfortunately the connector we would need is the 5 prong male end round bottom piece of the ignition switch rather than that found on the wire harness.

THANKS! Now I just have to determine if that is the set which includes the seat lock & ignition switch or just the ignition switch. CMSNL sure is proud of their stuff $$$$$ aren't they! They also have a -422 part number in parenthesis so perhaps it will cross with that and I can find just the bottom male connector part of the switch.

I did some scratching around with this one.
Looks like this is the Ignition/Seat Lock Combo.
Several supersessions with the Part Nos. but reckon this is it.
David Silver Spares list them as a special order and are a little bit cheaper. www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/

Be sure you have a good ground. It may or may not be the switch.

I've found a contradiction here which confirms what CMSNL said in their email to you.
The exploded view of this shows it as being the Ign/Seat Lock Combo which is what you want. (1 set of keys)
Having a look at a photo of the part number shows the Ign Switch only. (Same part No.)
This is listed for the 1976 CB750F US Market but there shouldn't be any difference from shore to shore. One would think anyway.
I'm going to do a bit more detective work on this one but my guts is telling me that the seat lock is no longer available which would give some sort of an explanation to this contradiction and hence supersession/supersession etc etc.

Thanks for all the effort. That black switch base (vs white on mine) tells me it isn't the original but rather the superceded part. Plus the part number confirms that too. As long as it's interchangeable it's fine. Just glad there is a replacement. I'm going to post another switch topic and see what problems everyone has with the aftermarket switches.

It was worth a try.
One other thing that was going through my mind was are there different key codes for these switches even though they are the same part number.
If that is the case and providing that they are a compatible replacement, is it a possibility that one of these switches could be supplied with your existing key code to avoid having more than one key?
Or could a locksmith cut a master key to suit the Ign switch and the seat lock if they did not share the same code?
Just a thought.

422 is the cbx 1000 and as i remember it the "set" is a sit down before you ask price!!

Also there are only so many different keys so it is possible to get the same key purely by chance but not by order. (Many years back i bought a new switch for my 500 and it turned up with the same key number as the original!!)

CMSNL site also mentions that this switch fits the Honda CB400F and the Goldwing 1000 as well.
That is the only info though.
