        To put it mildly,"I AM PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I had gotten an email that SAID it was from DHL and I had a package that they couldn't deliver (I'd been getting a few things for a bit now, from ebay scores and didn't think anything about it) and I needed to open the link to the invoice, bring it with me to their office and pick it up! So, I thought, "okay" and when I tried to oped it with internet explorer, it wouldn't work, so I went with Firefox and it went HAYWIRE!! Started putting all kinds of tabs on the page and would not stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn! I could not believe it!!!!!!!!!        So, be on the look out, don't know where or when they will hi next!!!!!!!!! I've done some cleaning up and getting ready to run some scans now.

Might also want to re-evaluate your virus scanner.  I have found norton and mcafee to suck. IF I had to pay for one, I would get nod32 or kaspersky.

Good point! I've got Stopzilla and am scanning now. I'm not too up on those things nor do I know how many different types you should have. I've heard that it's good to have at least a couple of different ones, to keep yourself protected.

Well I use avg free and superantispyware and it has worked well but there is no program that can stop everything as A/V programs and spyware programs are reactive meaning they come up with a fix after the virus comes out.

Forgot to mention that I ALSO have the AVG Free. It came in as an email, with a link to open for the invoice and to bring it to the DHL office to pick up my package. Since I have been doing a fair amount of ebaying for the last couple of months, I didn't think anything about it and OPENED it, the 1st time, ah but NOT the 2nd time! :P

Might want to check the updates. My avg scans any email I get. But to be fair, the most virus infections come from email.

I don't think you're being specifically targetted, Bill.  In the last few months, phishing emails of this type have been rampant.  My company receives large numbers of them every day.  They claim to be from a delivery company and contain a zipped attachment which contains the malware.  They're being sent by an automated process, not by a person, and there's a good chance you'll receive more.

Shame that someone can't figure a way to reprogram them to sent the crap to their own people! ;D :D

Norton is CRAP, i have been using Kaspersky for a while now with absolutely no problems at all, i also use "mail washer" and it has a bounce option, once bounced you never see them again because the program just sends them straight back where they come from...

Odds are, though, that the "From" address on the email is bogus.

Plus, spammers are smart enough to use email sources that cannot be replied to successfully.

I've got to vote for Avast! Antivirus. One question about your Firefox installation... Do you have Adblock Plus installed? How about NoScript? Combine those two add-ons with a quality antivirus and you shouldn't have any more problems. :)

i feel for ya bill. i've been hit before as i'm sure most everyone has.

i have spybot, avast, malwarebytes, ccleaner, and glary utilities.

maybe a bit redundant but they were all free and don't take up too much space.

god help the day i meet one of those responsible for this crap. i would squeeze their throat until their eyes bugged like those office stress reliever things. then take them for a good old fashion drag behind the car.

Was watching a doco on TV recently about these mongrols and they were saying that the bulk of this originates from Russia.
Any email attachment that comes as a zip file gets the flick immediately.

Funny but, since I bought my pc, about 6 months ago, I haven't
downloaded any free software and been virus free.
Used to have Ad-aware, Zone-Alarm and a few others.
Slowed down the pc big time, and I still got hit w viruses.

Most important thing I 've learned is to never open emails from
soucres I don't know/expect and keep McAfee updated.

i was shocked when i learned many (most?) viruses come from emails. any freeware i consider getting i consult c-net first. sometimes a commenter will warn of virus issues in addition to any other concerns. and i'll only download if it's got top marks and many good reviews. maybe no guarantee but seems to work so far.
