Need a shorter tachocable
« on: February 07, 2008, 01:30:38 AM »
Hi,
I am building a race version CB 500-f. Thinking of using the original Tachometer,
but with clip-on´s the stock tachocable is about 2" to long.
Is there anybody outhere that knows if there is a cable for another Honda that is shorter and still fits?

Thanks!
Victor

Not sure why clip-ons have an effect on the length of the tach cable, have you made a different bracket for the tach?

What model year is the cable from? I have some cables here and will look through them.

I found that the factory tach cable is way too long.
I had a custom tach cable 22" long made by Motion Pro and now with the relocation of my tach
I'm going to have a 20" cable made. They are expensive to have custom tach cables made, but
if you are interested in my 22" cable, maybe we can make a deal. It has less than 500 miles on it and
is considered in new condition.

I think you could shorten one, pull the inner out. Then  cut the cable back try to measure from where the outer ends up in the silver flanged sleeve. Then pick the old inner out of the sleeve and drive a pin or mandrel thru to get rid of whatever crimping or peening held it on.

Now you have to shorten the cable and grind the flats back on.. maybe it has to get soldered to help hold it together..(not sre if the square part is ground off or pressed square with a die)

Now make sure you put the nut on before reassembly.

Thanks for your help!
I am uasing a new bracket for the tachometer, so I guess the clip-on´s are´nt really the problem.
My current cable is about 23"outer and 23 5/8" inner.
Would like to shorten it by aprox. 2-2 1/2"

Thanks again!

Best regards
Victor
