Newbie with oil leak question
« on: October 24, 2009, 10:36:28 AM »
I've got a 1969 sandcast motor, and it has an oil leak.  Above the oil filter there's a plug with a slot for a screwdriver.  It leaks oil there.  What's behind that plug?  Is it just a plug with an oring or gasket?  I have a real Honda service manual, but it doesn't show it.  I don't want to open a can of worms.  I'm probably gonna sell this motor, and I want to be able to give an accurate description of it.   Basically, I want to know if this is gonna be a simple fix, or a bigger problem.
TIA

Is it part #7 (oil tube plug) on the diagram below?

Thanks for the info.  It does look like #7.  It looks like it has either an oring or some kind of copper gasket, and if I remove it, it's not gonna create any other problems.
Thanks for your assistance.

Honda used two different plugs types - early and later versions.  The o-ring for the later version is part #91319-300-000 (used from engine # 1000220 up).  No info. as to what o-ring was used with the earlier plug type.
