It occured to me that here is the states we watch way too much of the boob box. How about you share a favorite show.

Mine, right now is reruns of Rockford files and Everbody loves Raymond. Raymond is always getting duped by his way too close for comfort family.

Simpsons, Futurama. FWIW, when I lived in the States I liked Sex and the City, Mind of the married man, curb your enthusiasm, The Daily Show and The Man's show. They never got -except Sex and the City- to Spain, though I sometimes see "The Daily Show" in the CNN International edition.

I used to live in a neighbor where I swear I lived around the guys of King of the Hill. I knew someone who was exactly like each of the characters. And yes they stood infront of the house at the curb drinking beer, and there was the occasional couch for when they drank too much.  :D

If any of you guys outside of the UK ever get the chance to see one of the early episodes (series 1 or 2) of "Little Britain" then go for it. It's available on DVD.

I doubt very much whether the mainstream US networks would run it. It started as a cult show on BBC3 (digital only) and is now on primetime BBC1. It is racist, sexist, ageist, fat-ist, mysogenist (sp?) and the funniest thing I have seen since Python.  In 20 years time it wouldn't surprise me if there are a bunch of old foggies on the web quoting chunks of this ("Yeah but, no but" etc)

Series 3 isn't as good and is all of the above plus a healthy dose of plain bad taste...

On the Brit humor thing, Red Dwarf rocks. Makes most Brits look pretty silly. Monty Python beat everyone to that though.  ;D

Hey Raul, you can get the HBO shows on DVD. Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of my all time favorites. They just finished up the 5th season.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is based on the life of Larry David, the guy who made up Seinfeld. IIRC, most of it is done by the seat of the actors pants. Larry will set up a shot by telling everyone what the scene is about and they'll just come up with lines as they go. It takes a while to get into the show, but once you have you're hooked.

Hey ElCheapo - I hope that I can live in a neighborhood like that someday :)

Ahhh,  Benny Hill, what a classic. I was just a kid and my brother and me used to remove my grandpa's beret and quickly pat him in his bald head as Benny used to do...

From across the pond, I still love Monty Python. (S)he doesn't have his own show, but I love Dame Edna.  Current American fair- King of the Hill, and Malcom In The Middle ( I don't get cable- would rather spend the $ on parts and such).
Unfunny- I seem to have developed a passion for The East Enders, but it doesn't come on 'till 11PM.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

I love the old "Brit-coms" on BBC America.. Monty Python's Flying Circus, Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances....

My wife got me into watching the "Iron Chef". Apparently it has quite a cult following in Japan.

I used to live in a neighbor where I swear I lived around the guys of King of the Hill. I knew someone who was exactly like each of the characters. And yes they stood infront of the house at the curb drinking beer, and there was the occasional couch for when they drank too much. :D

for Monty fans - Fawlty Towers brings back the incessant Cleese insanity...

Mr. Bean!!! Mr. Bean!!! ...you Brits, is there a character that sums up the perfect idiosyncratic stereotype of "an American"?  ;)

cbj...

i'll second "The Office" -- that's my new/current favorite.  future classic, possibly.  did i hear correctly it's a remake/rip-off of a Brit show?  the way it's shot and written remind me of those hoser shows "The Industry" and "The Newsroom", both of which I also like.  We like, don't have many vocal hoseheads or canucks on this list, do we, eh?

don't forget Family Guy.

Or The Illustrious Mr. Head and his Sidekick, The Great Cornholio.

howbout "Diary of an Affair"?

my philosophy is, More Boob, Less Tube.  but that's just me.....

I gotta go with some of the picks mentioned - King of the Hill, old Seinfeld, the Office (the English version - haven't seen the American), Little Britian, and if there are any fellow Canucks out there - The Tournament.

Any of you islanders familiar with The League of Gentleman? I heard good things about it but haven't seen it yet.
