False neutral lights (as in, neutral light while in gear) or false neutral gear (as in, selects to neutral instead of going thru to selected gear)?

It may be a matter of rotating the arm assembly so that the lobe contacts it only while in neutral.

I have a cb550 apart right now not sure if they are similar but here it goes. the neutral safety lobe attaches to the shift drum and has a little notch that locks it in. check to see if these notches are lining up. go through the gears with both side cases off and make sure nothing is rubbing. when you screw on the lobe it should be able to get finger tight and then a final crank with the screw driver. also the lobe doesn't need to put a lot of pressure on the contact when in neutral, just touching. hope this helps.

you have to make sure the bike is in neutral before you fit the switch as it locates into an indent on the selector drum  ;) cheers Mick.
