tires........
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:40:12 PM »
hey guys... i am researching and starting to gather parts for my suspension swap (honda CBR RR frontend, F4i rear swinger, mono shock rear. etc... )

I am going to be doing a set of custom rims to keep the spokes with the suspension change... I really want to keep the larger rim sizes to keep the look of the bike going. i really want to keep the 19 up front and the 18 in the rear.

That being said... one of the only tires that i have found in that size is the Dunlop D207ZR tire... i have heard some good and bad about this tire... does anyone know of any other good tires that run in these sizes?

120/XX/19 -- front
180/xx/18 -- rear

That's a tough order, I ran into that roadblock when I was planning my swap too.  I'll have a look.

120/70ZR18 front http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/28/396/6008/ITEM/Bridgestone-BT-020-OEM-Replacement-Front-Tire.aspx

180/55ZR17 rear http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/28/394/6009/ITEM/Bridgestone-Battlax-BT-020-OEM-Replacement-Rear-Tire.aspx

Thesr are used on Yamaha Roadstar Warrior, FJR1300, Triumph Thunderbird Sport, Suzuki 1200 Bandit, some Katanas and SV650's too.
It may be a sporty enough tire for your application.
Cheers.

thanks for the input. ill have to look into that tire.... if need be... i will just run dual 17's for better tire selection. as this build is primarily function over form.  but if i can find a nice tire for sizes close to those, then i would prefer to go that route.

That's the route I'm going too, check out Michelin Pilot Activ, it's a tubeless bias ply that replaced Michelin Macadam.
I've got them mounted up for my K3, but have no miles on them.  I put one on the rear of my Nighthawk and it's nice, I'll get one on the front in the spring.
Running a 17" front might crowd your brakes if they're larger than stock 750 units, but Drdreas in Boston says it works in his threads, worth a look.

Here's a link for ya...

http://www.tiresunlimited.com/ALL%20TIRES/Michelin/Michelin_Pilot_Activ.htm

Make sure you go to Tires unlimited main page for motorcycle tires. They have the pictures and available sizes for a bunch of brands.

Happy hunting.
