Float level Tester
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:35:43 PM »
I came across this float level tester the other day on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CB750-CB550-CB500-CB360-Float-Level-Tester-Tool_W0QQitemZ170397919261QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item27ac81e81d

Wondering if anyone has ever used it, or something like it. or if it is worth it.

Dave

It's not strictly a float level tester. It's used as a window to observe the corresponding 'fuel level' inside the carb bowl. As such, it can identify varying fuel levels between the different bowls.

It does not provide (in itself) an accurate picture of whether any of the floats are actually set at the correct height or, whether any observed fuel level is correct/appropriate.

Lots of people make their own........... :)

Come on... you can make one yourself out of a piece of carton. All you need is a pair of scissors and a centimeter. It takes... five minutes?
What's all this float level testing in this forum anyway? I've yet to see a float that has been tampered with by a PO.

My brother made me one of those level measuring sight glasses.  I now set my liquid level 2mm below the gasket rather than adjusting dry float height.  I have found that setting the float height to spec does not always set the actual gas level in the carbs to be the same.

I think that this is for FLUID level,  not the float ,  it uses the "connected vessels" principle.

That's even simpler. Connect (a) transparent tube(s) to the drain hole and there you are. Connected vessels... amazing fysics, so reliable...

You misspelled that, it's "fisiks".

Actually the scientific term is static head.

That device is a static head measuring device for your carburetors.
