Racing at The Barber Vintage Festival 2009
« on: October 24, 2009, 10:03:20 am »
Me and my wife Jennifer, and my 1970 CB 750 Production Heavyweight bike.

I didn't get any pics of it at the track but here's Terry Naughton's CB 350F/whatever the heck is inside that engine.

My buddy Michael Hodgson on his CB 750/900-ish in Heavyweight Superbike

Someone mentioned Honda Ascots?  Here's my friend Becky Baker-Illman on hers:

looks like you had some fun....

A couple questions... your buddy michael hodgson's bike.... is that an SOHC motor? is it an sohc CB750 with modern suspension and race goodies on it? it looks as if the alternator side cover is trimmed down? do you possibly have anymore pictures of the bike?

looks great..... does anyone else by chance have some more pictures of it? maybe some information on parts? I would love some more information on that bike.

I have been trying to figure out rear set positioning on my 76F and trying to decide what rear sets to go with. looks like he might have some woodcraft rear sets on there from a GSXR maybe?

anyone want to ask him if its ok for you to give out his e-mail to a fellow SOHC4 owner to ask him some questions about it?

I've got some more pics of Michaels bike at home.  Not from Barber, got some at Roebling last winter.  Maybe a few from Road America?  I'll have to look.

Michael's one of the nicest people on the planet.  I'll get in touch with him and see if he'd be willing to help you out.

Yes to all the above.  I'm not sure what's inside that particular engine, he's got two or three engines that I know of.  The frame is a heavily reinforced stock frame - I think it's a '76 - with CBR600 front end and rear wheel.  Swingarm is stock with some beefing up.

And on top of all this his wife makes a good cup of coffee.

sounds great. if you can take a look and shoot me those pictures, i would greatly appreciate it. I have a 76 F (looks as if thats what he started off with) and would love to see some of the bracing that he has done. I am planning on doing a similar conversion to modern suspension with modern dual brakes and want to stiffen up the frame as best possible. he has done a few things that i am interested in doing.

Here he is on the grid at Roebling Road, late February 2009

I didn't get any shots of him at Daytona, I was kinda busy.  Same deal at Road America, I was kinda busy there too

Stripped a spark plug hole on #2 after practice on Friday.  I gave up, my friends didn't.  With their help we pulled the engine Saturday morning and got the hole Helicoiled.  Helicoil kit courtesy of Bruce Blake at Michigan Engineering, steady hand provided by Randy Iilg at FrameCrafters.

Got the bike back together with 30 minutes to spare.  Suited up, went out for my race, took a legit, well-earned 2nd place.  1st place got disqualified by the referee so I got 1st.  Got 2nd again on Sunday.

sounds great... nothing like the power of friends to keep you going when you give up on yourself.
