My helmet, a Hawk Advanced design modular helmet. It has an inner dark tinted visor that flips up and down as needed. I like it because I don't have to carry spare sunglasses for day driving; it's all in the helmet. DOT approved.

Comes in several different versions

I was looking for a low end (first) helmet and it seemed that Scorpion beats our HJC every time.  Got an exo-400 and first impressions are really good.  Much nicer than the HJC's I was able to get my hands on at the stores. Comfortable, looks good, and happens to match the color of my new cafe.

I got a Momo Jet Fighter helmet with my 74k. I get speedracer comments quite frequently but I think thats a good thing. Very comfy helmet but I should probably upgrade to full face for the added protection.

I have a scorpion also. very well made for the price. probably the best buy out there.

and if you get a black one it will look good w/ anything. the stupid S is just a sticker and will clean up nice if you pull it off.

I wouldn't worry about trying to match your vintage bike with a vintage style helmet.

unless you want a retro head injury. no one looks cool when they're drooling.

Hahaha, yeah, I like my face. I've had three friends fall and each one of their helmets have scrapes on the side of the face. I'll worry about upgrading my gear when I actually get one of my bikes running though, no point now.

+1 Gordon.

I had a biking aquaintance who trained in the same Star rider clsas as me. Insisted on an open face helmet and then he had a bad crash where a car pulled out from a side road. Last time I saw him he had a titanium jaw and dribbled permanently into a handkerchief.....very sad. :(

How about a $600.00 Arai full face helmet to keep your face looking good just in case (I use a signet Wess Cooly Arai)

But I just love the retro style pudding helmets

what other endorsement do you need?

I think people should be discouraged from using the puding bowls. a lot of newbies might not know better. places that sell novelty helmets should be ashamed of themselves. experienced motorcyclists should not be pushing that crap on young, dumb kids who are hung up on looking cool. I don't think helmet laws are necessary, just a consensus among motorcyclists that sub standard helmets are definitely not 'cool'. and if you need a helmet to feel cool, chances are you never will be. try being real instead.

Completely agreed. There are no helmet laws in denver and it seems like less than 30% of the bikers here wear helmets. I just don't get how people think a 50+ mph crash is going to be anything less than violent and that they'll somehow have the ability to prevent slapping their head on the ground. I have a friend who bought a very nice armored jacket and a stupid half shell helmet, he wears neither. He'll actually strap the helmet to the bike and ride around like that. That helmet is going to do you a lot of good on the side of your seat!

I had a half helmet with a visor for a while. liked the retro look but after my brother took a spill on his bike with a full face helmet i changed my mind about looks vs safety. pickedup a Rader fullface helmet at a local shop. i like the simple look and the decals peel off so its completely black. good quality for the price. http://www.jcwhitney.com/jcwhitney/product.jcw?nval=1101013860&statenval=1101013860&productId=2021440&skuId=567033&shopid=100001&pageid=13&TID=8014524F&utm_source=Google_Product_Search&utm_medium=CSE&utm_content=product-539942&zmam=73771597&zmas=21&zmac=122&zmap=539942

I have an "old school" open face helmet - not quite old school enough to be orange metalflake - that I use for local jaunts to the lake shore (about 1/4 mile) or city errands. Sure there's danger, but if I was unwilling to face any danger I'd be living in a bubble. For highway or country rides where I might push the envelope a bit I have a Shoei full face. It's due for replacement though, I'll be going to the winter bike shows to see what deals there are. I am not impressed by Bell helmets, still too heavy and many are really car helmets with limited peripheral vision. The budget lines I've actually tried are rather noisy, Shoie and Arai are much quieter IMO. One thing is that it's not too easy to test drive helmets here, I knew the accessory guys at a major Toronto dealer well as i shopped there for about 30 years (closed now, like most of them) and they would let me take one for a quick highway ride... but this doesn't seem to be common. A helmet that fits well in the store can be horrible at speed - some will oscillate, lift, or pull back heavily while some are somehow more aerodynamic though almost identical in shape.
