Got a ridiculous deal on a 750 Nighthawk this weekend!
« on: October 12, 2009, 04:21:04 AM »
I picked up a 1995 750 NH that is darn near flawless for $475 this weekend.  Turns out the guy selling just got approved for Medical Disability and had to give up riding.  It is in excellent shape, all stock, with the centerstand, and just needs a detail and a new choke cable.  I already clay barred the paint and remove a bunch of road tar.  I am gonna clean it completely on Tuesday and then I will post pics up!

I keep looking for one of those to have as a "big" bike. As good as those bikes are supposed to be, I'm amazed at how low their prices are. There was one on the local CL not too long ago with 5kmiles and he was only asking 1500.

a clay bar pulls paint contaminants out of the paint by rubbing it against the surface with a spray lube applied first.  sounds kinky, huh?  It's not.  It's tedious work, but the results are well worth it!

how do you adjust the slack in the throttle cables?  Mine has a bit of play before it turns the unit that opens the butterflies.  The cable has two 10mm nuts and threads into the carbs.  Anyone know?

Not factory paint, couple nicks in it.  Put new NGK's in it today.  Cylinder #2 was cross-threaded, ugh, had to chase the threads.  Had two champion plugs and two NGK's in it...weird.  Still needs an air filter, thinking a UNI.  Hooked up a choke cable from a spare I had lying around.  Rides flawlessly!

Nice deal!  I've got a 92 we picked up last year for $1300 needed fork seals, steering bearings and a rejet (up 2 sizes on big&small jets, may still raise the needles someday) to better match the V&H 4:1
I found a center stand for $50 and changed out the crappy 140/70-17 Dunlop K505 for a 150/70-17 Michelin Pilot Activ (a little taller and wider, fits fine)
I'll get a Pilot Activ on the front and swap to a new chain in the spring.

Put it onthe road on July 3rd '08 with 30,500 miles and just turned 40K the other day, new plugs and blew out the air filter last week.
I've been running Rotella non-synth 15w-40 with a Purolator filter, it burns a little oil, and the float bowl gaskets leak a few drops each week, but it's a real screamer.
Be sure to check out the Yahoo groups, there's some good info there.
Enjoy!
-Alan

Your pictures seem to show a "hazy" area. You may need to clean your camera lens.

Good deal on the bike, I plan to get me the european equivalent as soon as I find a good deal

not factory paint as the chips and underside of the tank and panels are all candy red metallic.

Gotcha.  I can't imagine someone wanting the yellow over the red, but both were factory colors.  Mine's black, and under the chips and scratches...more black.
