Newbie Hello
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:03:18 AM »
Hi, I am a total newbie to this forum or any other bike forum for that matter. So if I do or say something stupid please say so.

First I haven't ridden in about 25 years (kids..you know what I mean) anyhow I have restored a few cars in my day. But I had the need for a bike so I got a garage find 1974 350F in sorry shape from a guy I know. Always loved the look of the Honda Fours. And this bike just said buy me. A have a good friend who owns a body shop that restores bikes from this era but I can't imagine better help than can come from a forum like this.

At some point in the last 20 years this bike got fertilizer on it and some of the stuff got corroded pretty bad.

Anyway I am going to take it down to the frame, replate all the bright work, paint the frame, have the engine gone through. I'll do most of it myself as I enjoy wrenching. Already I find I have some problems finding parts. I need new coil packs and I need a cover for the breakers/points.

Then I am gonna go take the Motorcycle safety course again and have some fun riding this machine

Here's a shot of us picking up the bike a couple of weeks ago

Anyway I'm glad I found this place...I know yall are full of good info

Thanks

Gnat

Hello and welcome!  My 350F was stored in a barn next to sacks of fertilizer as well.  It really does a number on the shiny bits!  Wonder why these little bikes are magnets for fertilizer?   ;)  Anyways, enjoy!
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

That's a great looking bike to start with.  It looks mostly complete.  Where is the top half of the engine?

Thanks for the comments guys..the rest of the stuff was in a cardboard box. The cylinder head cover and the cam shaft and the cylinder head itself are maybe only useful for parts like tappet covers and such. I purchased new/used ones on ebay along with a variety of other parts.

Still trying to figure out how I'm going to sort out the mufflers. I want to go back to the 4 into 4 as the original was. I have a body shop guy who says he might be able to build me a bracket to hold some aftermarket ones that are close in looks to the originals.

Hey Gnat. I don't know where you're located but if you're interested I have a nearly complete 350F engine that I just picked up last week. The guy thought it was a 550 but when I went to get it it was a 350. It is missing the cylinder head cover, carbs,  intake manifolds and Honda emblem on generator cover. Other than that it is COMPLETE. It turns over with the kick starter. I have no use for it. I paid nothing for it and that's exactly what I want for it. I am in Knoxville, TN.
