73' CB750 long overdue...
« on: May 22, 2010, 10:41:27 pm »
Purchased out of a local classifieds years ago, feud with a brother over who owns what.. its mine now and ready to get rolling.

Rebuilt carbs and started in 07' its sat since then and now shipped from Michigan to San Diego.  Time to complete the project.
<-- back in 07'

The bike when first purchased for $400

Arrives to socal!

Rebuilt the carbs, bench synced and ready for install

Marinating on what to do.. I need to hit the front forks, ignition, and brakes.  Thinkin on a dual disk front, maybe a fatter front wheel/tire and enjoy.  Lots to read and learn on here.  So new to bikes, always been a car guy....

had some help today, anytime someone volunteers to clean out the tight spaces around the motor I'll take it.

Basically just cleaning the entire bike to get familiar with it.  Nearly ready to start again and hit the suspension and forks.  Moving slowly I know...

I need to get my hands on a caliper, a new chain, fork seals, a battery, etc

where does everyone purchase gaskets? I need one for the primary & gastank

Okay she is running!

First start, needs to be tuned.. throttle is sticking a little but she is starting up right away and that was worth an update to me.

Fork seals are being installed tomorrow, then on to the front caliper.  Just needs a chain, find a tach and she is pretty much complete and ready to ride and tinker with.

Hoping to get her to idle tomorrow and see if I can get it running smoothly.

Learning to set idle and tweak the carbs is an interesting process..

Super fast RPMs if the choke is engaged, won't run w/o throttle with choke disengaged.  Also seems cylinder #2 doesn't want to run all the time.  The plug wires look beyond worn out.

and damn this thing is loud w/ no baffle.. painful loud.  gotta look at options for that too.

a little eye candy, since my helper was over again.

Sweet! (Both the running pat and your assistant  ;) )

In the video, it's not firing on all four. Double check the ignition timing and double check that the idle circuit is clean in the carbs.  Sometimes it takes several attempts at the carbs to get them really clean.

Okay, pulled the airbox and I could see what I am believing to be the idle circuit.  So I cleaned this out with a thin paper clip, blew compressed air through and watched as fuel spewed out 3 of them while air went into the 4th.  So all are clear.  Threw the airbox back on and started her up.  Video will be up momentarily.  Idles at very low rpm smooth w/ choke.. no luck at all on idle w/o choke.

Here is an image of what I believe to be the idle circuit if someone would be nice enough to confirm.
