Stupid Question , But , HOW THE HELL DO I GET THIS THING OPEN ??
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:50:55 PM »
Hey ,

Just got my 2nd tank for the CB in the mail today. Got it off Evil-Bay , for a decent price.
The last tank I bought ended up in the dumpster , but that's a long story....

This one has the non-locking gas cap , which is fine with me , but I can't seem to ge the damn thing open !
I assume that you push down on the little flat part , and the cap should pop open. I have tried this , with no luck.
What am I doing wrong.. ?

One of the pics from Ebay was with the cap open , so I am sure it does in fact open.
Just need to know how to get it to open, before I break it open  ;D

push down on the rear of the gas cap while pushing the button... yes, it took me some time to figure it out too!

That was quick  ;D
Gotta love this site...........

2nd Question :

Whats up with these emblems ? Due to the fact I can't see how they mount , I assume they
are stuck on to the tank ? Should I do the ol fishing line trick to get them off ? I ask this because the ones
on my K8 style tank have two little screws holding them on...

p.s. The tank is said to be from a 1974 CB750

I have the same latch on mine. Always make sure you press down on the lid, if you don't, the latch will eventually break (not too strong you see) and they are hard, if not impossible to come by.

I am surprised DusterDude hasn't chimed in yet. He should be thrilled that I
won't be running a K8 tank anymore....

O.K, so now I know how to get mine off, but how the hell do you re-fit the little friction type washer things inside the tank when you need to put the emlems back on??

Close the cap the exact same way you open it. Just pushing down to relatch it can lead to a broken latch eventually, as well as a big dimpled area in the tank around the cap. I can remember broken latches being a common thing back in the years when these bikes were new. Guys used to unwittingly just slam the cap down with a fist to close them.

Very good point, forgot to mention it.

TOYCOLLECTOR---->

I am not planning on running the emblems once this tank gets painted, so putting them back on
isn't an issue

If I were to re-install them, I would use some sort of silicone, maybe even RTV to give the pins something to
grab onto, and also which could easily be removed if need be to hold the emblems on..
