Once I get my magneto back on, bleed the front brakes, and mount the magnet on the sprocket, I'll take it for a spin and see how it performs. I'd assume it's pretty good considering it's the same hookup they use on a lot of their models and I couldnt find any complaints.  I havent seen any of their mechanical hookups for the speedos.  When I called their tech dept, they said they had nothing that would match a cb750.

Looks like the website drastically changed since the last time I was there.  They used to have a list of different connectors they had with pictures.  The guy I talked to at tech support said, "Just see if there's one that looks like your speedo cable, and it should work."  Obviously, this did not fill me with confidence, as I have not yet purchased one.   ;D

So, how do these magnetic ones work, anyway?  I mean, obviously, they read how many times the wheel passes the sensor, but I'm unclear on how they hook up and exactly what on the wheel they're reading.

The pickup is probably just a reed switch or something that's tripped by the magnet.  It reads the revolutions of the wheel, you put the diameter of the wheel into the speedo and it calcs your speed.  It's the same setup as a bicycle speedo.

I have a set of these on my 750 project for over 3 years.  Many of the 70s and 80's Japanese bikes share the same speedo ratio, including the CBs and the xs650s.  The speedo units that MikesXS sell will be the correct ratio for the CBs and the connector on the back will work with the CB speedo cable.  Mine was sold to me as have the 2240:60 ratio but had a 2 and 1 on the back of it which prompted me to call the seller and ask for an explanation.  He connected me with the manufacturer (Chinese I think) who claimed that the ratio was correct inspite of the 2 and 1 on the back. In the end I installed the speedo and it reads very accurately.  The idiot lights work fine as long as you install a diode to keep the turn signals from cross flashing (there is only one turn signal idiot light; I am using led front turn signals which makes the diode a must but I am not sure if one would need it with a standard filament bulb)  At times, the speedo needle will get jumpy (speeds over 60 and only sometimes) but for the most part it works OK.  The matching mechanical tach (I believe it is a 4:1 ratio for the 750) has worked perfectly.  Here's a couple shots for you . . . .

This is almost EXACTLY what I'm looking to do with my '76 CB750 project, but with the Superbike bars. Where did you get the ignition mount from?
