looking GOOD!!  i really like that!  midnight made made me some gauge faces that i've yet to put on!  did you ever think about just getting some small single LED's and running resistors through thru the lines and securing them to the gauge faces themselves?  no lens or anything above them?  like the 5mm ones from here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fleds.htm#hf5mm

just glue the base of them to the bottom of the board?  maybe snap them in?  i figure something like that done properly would look great!

Thats essentially all this is, just some LEDs underneath.  I just wanted a rectangular light.  It would be easier to just mount them up to the bottom of the faceplate and if I were to do it again I might do it that way.  This wasn't that hard to set up though, especially since I was able to just cut everything out on the laser cutter.  I'm hoping to get them installed in the case again later today, but I've been busy getting my bike back together... so we'll see if it happens.

I think I just caught this thread for the first time.  Saw the title and first thing that came to mind was a chiq that posed nekkid on the internet named Gauge.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Alright guys, I worked late tonight so you could see the 'finished' product.  (and I needed my tach back together before tomorrow morning)  Regardless,  Shots of my tach, the first is with the lights in the garage on, the second is lights off, the third is a shot of some of the 'guts'.  I'll try to get a photo in the sunlight tomorrow.  They work great, now I just need to print off a better face and somehow get more light up to my needle, it still disappears at night....

and just for s 'n g one of the bike

hey b82ta, just thinking that if you were to paint the acrylic with spray on glass tint paint, the stuff car tuners use on their taillights, before you cut and etch it. Then you could paint the redline numbers and ticks and then not use the velum. Use thinned red model paint so it illuminates nicely. Window tint film might work too.

As well if you paint the 'cups' white or silver or red or whatever anything but black, the light would reflect up to your needles well (just as the original green reflected light up to the top of the face).

I dont know about being a genius.... haha but I do plan to experiment a bit more with some different types of acrylic.  There is one that uses a paper backing, which i'm going to try whenever I can get some laser cut time, might not be till later in the summer or next semester :( but the goal is to etch around the numbers, pick out the paper, and paint 'em I think it would work well, but the laser cutter is crazy this time of year with final models and all that stuff... I'll have to try repainting the cups when I have them apart again, I figured that was what was needed... The only thing i'm worried about is it bringing too much light to the front and offsetting the 'glow through' ability...

Hi
i think it looks very nice what you have been doing
is there someone out there who has these gauge faces in km/h?
i would be very greatfull if you could send me a .ai file or .cdr or something like this
alternatively it could be nice to know the outer dimension of the gauge face. then i can make my own

I can send you the AI file of the faces I have, which are only in MPH... but it will get you the diameters at least.  Do you need 550 or 750?
