Any chance you want to make your file for the gauges available to others?

Can do.  What would you like them in?  I can do anything illustrator can export to.  Absolutely no guarantees on accuracy as I did them over a scanned image of an old tach I had, and an image of a speedometer that I found on this site...

are you doing these using vectoring?

Chances are they're vector if he's in illustrator. I'd like to see the files too. I'm debating on reviving my old gauges or just saving some time and headache with an acewell.

I'm tracing over existing images/template photos in illustrator.  They are vector images, and therefore can be easily manipulated via layers, fills and line weights.  I'm in the process of cleaning up my files and will upload them when they are a little more tidy.  also for the speedo tach combo gauge... What are the gearbox ratios for the F bikes?  I tried using values that I found on the forums, but its not coming out to anything close to my current speedo readings... I suppose I could be using the wrong sprocket tooth counts...

Nice! My 2c is, drop the "RPM x 1000" and just write "RPM", like on the blue guages. Gives more symmetry between the guages, three letters each.

Ah, great idea.  Thanks.  Also, I got the gear ratio issue figured out. Nearly have the speedo/tach combo gauge designs done.

with that combo your "speedo" would only be accurate in 5th gear. mine is 57mph@4000rpm

I don't know about you but I ride in 4th alot...
depending on the speed, whatever keeps me above 3700rpm
everything I say is pure speculation and

Alright, so here are the base designs for the Speedo/tach combo.  Apparently I didn't have the gear ratios figured out as there is a discrepancy between the two sources... For the gauge with 2-5 on it I used the excel sheet in the technical info section.  I changed the values of the 4th and 5th gear as well as the primary reduction as per this thread. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=49373.0  Using my 14/43 sprocket combo, these are the values I got.  For the other gauge I had used information compiled from the same thread but used a different online speed vs rpm convertor.  Anyway, all of this can be easily corrected before the gauges are finalized granted I know what caused the difference... and which one is correct.... anyway here they are!

i kinda like the one on the left... but doesnt tire wear, chain and sprocket wear come into factors? as well as i heard these tachs can be off by 100 rpms... i think its a cool but i dunno if it would be worth the hassle... some one mentioned a thread earlier of another speedo tach combo but one was normal size and the other was like an inch diameter and in the middle upper right...if anybody knows where that thread is post it cause its cool... but if u like it... thats all that mattters

I don't think it would make too much of a difference. The amount that tire wear would throw it off couldn't be all that much?  I don't really give too much credit to either the tach or speedo on these bikes as being overly accurate.  The speedometer on mine is 5+ mph off.  These are just messing around anyway.

alright guys, for anyone who's interested.  .ai format of the first two designs are up.  Here's the link.

http://www.filefactory.com/file/a07ed55/n/Gauge_template_ai

If there is interest in the combo gauges being uploaded i'll clean them up and get them up as well.

thanks for the feedback guys, hopefully more progress soon, the new laser cutter sheets go up tomorrow morning and I'll try to get myself a slot early in the week...

Thanks so much for the files b82ta.

In case anyone needs the Eurostile font that's used here, you can download it for free at http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts-e3.html.

I'd suggest doing regular intervals, such as every 10 MPH, on the speed scales.

I wouldn't think it would be much worse than the stock speedo.  Mine is off by about 10 MPH at 60.  It's still better than nothing.

A great solution for those with tach only would be a small digital display showing through the face.

dude...awesome!.....it woul be really cool to do the LED shining in the side so it only lights up the etched sections, and with no light it would look like the gauges were blacked out, or whited out :P.....really cool and so many awesome ideas can come from that

Well that's fancy... I like it. What color do you plan to put behind it?

Lighting from the side would be awesome, but I don't know if they would be bright enough to not get completely washed out in the sun... At night it would be totally awesome.  I'll maybe have to test some stuff out with that. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for painting them both my plan and my plan b failed... The laser cutter didn't cut the plastic coating out over the etching like I had hoped it would and the etching isn't deep enough to paint the whole thing and sand the rest off. BUT I have a couple more ideas to try, and I have some extra time today so  I'll mess around a bit.
